Diablo 3 Podcast #173: Power Creep and Spin2Win Barbs
Season Three marches on with massive power creep in higher GRifts. Are higher levels of Torment required, or will the removal of Realm of Trials solve the problem? Also, why doesn’t anyone want to play with Spin2Win Barbs, do Seasons need more incentives, and does anyone really want to play Thorns? Featuring N3rdwards, Master X, […]
Complete Rift and Grift Monster Progress % Values
Monsters are worth very different amounts of progress to the bar in or , and the types of enemies you get can greatly influence your clear times. I notice this all the time when I’m doing speed runs; sometimes I’ll get a nice dense Rift, mow through a ton of monsters, think I’m doing great, […]

Wardrobe Focused Feedback Requested

Posted 8 May 2015 by Flux at 10:56 GMT

spacer

The PTR had some weird Wardrobe locations.

The Wardrobe was added in Patch 2.3 after some testing time on the PTR, and it’s popular (I guess?) amongst players who spend time polishing their character’s appearance. Some fans who have used the Wardrobe much more than I offered a bunch of feedback and got a Blue reply asking for more.

Wardrobe Feedback

Honestly, I am *STOKED* to finally be able to take these items out of my packs, but even better is that now they show up in the other Menus! I wanted to offer a bit of feedback, though, in hopes of improving the system even further! In no particular order:

  • When you click on the Wardrobe, it should just automatically pull on the window. Since there are tabs on the side, I think it just makes more sense.
  • I’m not sure that “Wings” and “Pennants” really warrant having two separate categories. The reason is, I think it kind of pigeonholes you guys into making lots more Wings and Pennants, as opposed to maybe more creative options. Plus, when you equip Wings *AND* a Pennant, it’s visually kind of overkill, to the point I think it starts to look a little silly.
  • I would love to see a new “Skins” option. That is, being able to replace the character-model with a slightly altered version of them. Look at the new Season 3 artwork, for example; there’s a gorgeous, red-haired Demon Hunter! Or for my Barbarian, I love the idea of having a black Barbarian with long dreadlocks, or maybe a Crusader with fair features and short red hair, sort of an Irish appearance. Really, there’s a lot you could do there, so that even if you have a team of all Male Wizards, they might all look a bit different (even if it’s only their face and skin-color). Keep their voice-work the same, but maybe they also get a different portrait?
  • Working off of that last idea, maybe even do “Special Skins”, such as giving your Barbarian green skin and black hair like an Orc, or making your Wizard appear as a Protoss. Because they’d be so over-the-top, maybe just reserve them for special events, like on Halloween, or during Blizzcon weekend, stuff like that.
  • I noticed that “Angelic Wings” has been renamed to “Eternal Light”. I’d personally suggest changing them once more, and calling them “Wings of Justice”, to fit the precedent of the “Wings of Valor”. I might also suggest giving it a cool little quote, too.
  • By the way, *PLEASE* don’t implement all of those other “Wings” that were datamined. A number of them look virtually indistinguishable from the original Collector’s Edition Wings, and those are something I take a great deal of pride in; if other Wings are to be added, then I think an effort should be made to ensure they’re instantly recognizable as being different.
  • Obviously, more Pets might be cool… Although I struggle to think what they might be. Personally, I hate the Special Hound-thing that’s currently available, because not only does it look creepy as hell, but it looks like an enemy, so I would constantly stop to try and attack it, which is why I don’t even use it.
  • Grimiku: Nice thread with lots of good feedback and suggestions. I like to encourage healthy discussions like this whenever I can, and I think it’d be cool to see more ideas (and feedback) from the community about the Wardrobe feature. Thanks for starting it, Terin!

  • What do you like about the Wardrobe right now?
  • What about the current functionality do you think could be improved?
  • What else would you like to see added to this feature?
  • How about it? Are you guys using the Wardrobe and finding it useful? I see more players than ever (unfortunately, IMHO) running around with glowing/distracting wings, so maybe the Wardrobe is reminding player to turn them on more than in the old “have to click that item in the inventory” days?

Epeen Feature: Bonus GRift Leaderboard Notifications

Posted 7 May 2015 by Flux at 23:06 GMT

    spacer

    Simply packed with useful info…

I tweeted this today, but since Twitter is “peopled” entirely by ad bots and bored middle school students, here’s a recap:

I think a cool added feature in Reaper of Souls would be the game telling you where your just-completed spacer Grift time would have ranked on the spacer leaderboard, if you didn’t already have a higher rank in the top 1000 with that class.

For instance, if your best was #108 via GR47 in 12:41, and you ran GR45 in 10:07, you obviously didn’t improve your time. But if that GR45 time was good enough to be say #378, the game would tell you, just like it does when your new best time is in the top 1000. This info could go in that annoying Grift popup screen, though that’s a danger that when the next patch finally enables us to close that with a space bar or Esc click, no one will ever read a word in it again.

I want this feature because reasons. 1) I need more frequent reminders that I’m better than other people, and 2) it should be broadcast friend’s list and clan-wide since other people need more reminders of that too.

Does anyone *not* want this feature? I mean, it’s not game changing or anything, but it seems like it would be next-to-zero work for the devs to implement, and would be of interest to players who have built up powerful characters. It would also be a nice way to keep track of the overall leaderboard progression, without having to open up the leaderboard listing and check it manually.

Epeen Feature: Bonus GRift Leaderboard Notifications! Make it so.

    Greater Rifting: #1 GR56 Crusader and #10 GR55 Barbarian

Posted 7 May 2015 by Flux at 12:40 GMT

Two more high level GRift videos for your inspiration today.

The first shows famed streamer Alkaizer playing a Crusader. The run is softcore with a number of deaths, but he still finishes in time for the #1 ranking on the solo Crusader leaderboard, and without even the benefit of Stonesinger!

I’d never seen this Crusader build before, and while I know that for a lot of players, “effective = fun” … this looks really boring. I like the horsey drag them on chains bit for some positioning, but 95% of this could be the D1 spacer Warrior, smashing his way through endless enemies with a billion repeated swings of a melee attack. It’s obviously effective, but if anyone watches this and is like, “OMG, Cruzados looks amazing! I must build one!” I’ll eat a shield.

Click through to view the Barbarian video, with everyone’s favorite v2.3 Spin2Win build in action, showing the very best and very worst aspects of the build.

    Blizzcon 2015 Contests Announced

Posted 7 May 2015 by Flux at 12:19 GMT

spacer Blizzard has posted news about their annual Blizzcon contests. There are four contests, and while the Costume and Talent contests are judged live on stage at Blizzcon, there are limited entrant slots and fans who are going to attend the show must enter in advance. In addition to those live spectacles, there’s a Fan Art and Fan Movie contest which can be entered online whether you’re attending Blizzcon or not.

Contest sign ups aren’t live yet, so the Blue post is just general info. Blizzcon 2015 Contests Announced:

    BlizzCon 2015 Costume Contest

    spacer

    2014 Costume Winner

The Costume Contest is coming back, and we’re already trying to guess what heroes, adventurers, villains, and oddities we’ll see onstage. Each year your creations get more elaborate and spectacular, and we’re sure that this year will be no exception.

As in prior years, we’ll be opening up online signups for the contest in the coming weeks. The number of contestants will be limited, and those who don’t make the initial cut will be placed on a wait list. Final contest registration and participation confirmation will take place on Friday morning at BlizzCon, so please make sure you have a purchased BlizzCon ticket in hand, secure your place in the contest or on the wait list during the online sign-up, and have your costume finished well in advance. Spread the word to all of your cosplay friends — BlizzCon is the place to see and be seen!

Remember: It’s important to keep safety in mind as you’re planning your creation — that means you must be able to easily and safely see out of and maneuver in your costume without assistance, and make sure your costume allows you to see clearly and move easily. In addition, no real weapons, dangerous materials, or large motorized costumes will be allowed.

In recent years we had a run of Diablo cosplay winners, though that streak did not continue last year, when that um… Protoss (?) bug thing won. Perhaps some enterprising Diablo cosplayers can take back the crown this year. Or at least look really cute in their Demon Hunter costumes?
