The inaugural edition of NEWD ART SHOW will bring together strong local, curatorial voices - among them artist collectives, project spaces, nonprofits, and artist-run galleries - to share 7,000 sq ft of open warehouse space during Bushwick Open Studios. The event will also host talks addressing issues affecting artists today. such as artist resale royalties and the gentrification of art neighborhoods. Not just another art fair, NEWD aims to invigorate the fair model by bringing collectors to the territory of art production to engage with emerging artists in their studios and discover experimental curatorial initiatives.

Zürcher Paris/NY is happy to announce the 7th edition of Salon Zürcher, taking place at Zürcher Studio in Lower Manhattan. Between our two galleries, Zürcher Paris/NY has hosted 6 mini art fairs, which have been major successes and garnered very positive media attention. Described by Hyperallergic Magazine as "an alternative and more intimate way to view emerging artists and galleries", and by the New York Times as a "respite from [big art fair] chaos," Salon Zürcher seeks to represent an emerging art world both inside and outside of New York City by providing an exciting and personable viewing experience.

Accessible yet impressive, small but diverse, this year we are showcasing 6 galleries from across the United States (and Canada). Salon Zürcher will be held at Zürcher Studio, located at 33 Bleecker Street, within walking distance from the lower eastside art scene and the New Museum.

Opening : Monday, May 5th : 5 - 8 pm

Hours : Tuesday, May 6th - Saturday, May 10th : 12 - 8 pm Sunday, May 11th : 12 - 5 pm

DONUT MUFFIN

Featuring the work of Mike Amrhein, Sarah Braman, Ariel Dill, Joe Fyfe, EJ Hauser, Clinton King, Pam Lins, Lauren Luloff, Chris Martin, Nathlie Provosty, Robert Rhee, Christian Sampson, and Stephen Truax

Opening: Sunday, January 13, 2:00-5:00 PM

DORSKY GALLERY / Curatorial Programs is pleased to announce the continuation of its program of independently-curated exhibitions: Donut Muffin, curated by Jessica Duffett and Tamara Gonzales.

Donut Muffin is an exhibition that explores dialogues in New York-based contemporary painting and sculpture. The exhibition mines the rich intersections between once segregated territories: painting and sculpture, conceptual and intuitive art practices, and the space between intention and perception.

The title of the exhibition is derived from a pastry often shared by the curators during their conversations leading up to the exhibition. This humble decadent treat serves as an irreverent yet apt metaphor for reflections on objects challenging single readings.

For more information about Donut Muffin, and to download the PDF version of the brochure containing the curator's essay, click here

PIG PARTY organized by Gina Beavers
New York CIty @ 83 Bowery 2nd Floor NYC 10002
September 21–October 20, 2012

A "Pig Party" is defined by WikiAnswers as, "a term, first coined in the movie Animal House. It is a college party where guys see who can bring the ugliest date. Usually there is some sort of wager on the line and a voting system that happens after the ugly dates have left the party."

With this idea in mind, New York City presents works from "secret" painting practices, awesomely "bad" undergrad works, awfully amazing things found online, middle school art class drawings, and more!!!

BLIND SPOT
EJ Hauser & Mónica de la Torre

ELIZABETH MURRAY ART WALL
BOWERYARTS+SCIENCE
308 Bowery @Bleecker Street
May 2-June 27, 2012

Reception: Wednesday May 2, 5:30-7pm @ Bowery Poetry Club

For the Elizabeth Murray Art Wall project, EJ Hauser and Mónica de la Torre have collaborated to create BLIND SPOT. EJ Hauser constructed a simple optical exercise in neon that can reveal one’s blind spot. Other images may or may not appear. Mónica de la Torre provided the conceptual springboard for the project.

I introduced EJ Hauser and Mónica de la Torre by email. After one studio visit their collaboration continued online. Their conversation is integral to the work. In it, the word “blind spot" keeps coming up and eventually becomes their central image.

EJ Hauser is a Brooklyn based painter known for her abstract and text-based work. Recently, portraits of Walt Whitman and Paul Thek made an appearance into her oeuvre. This year her work has been seen in Special Blend at the Journal Gallery and at the VIP Art Fair 2.0 with James Fuentes Gallery. EJ blogs on art and artists and you can follow her @ SUPERDIGIT.

Mónica de la Torre comfortably wears several hats: poet, translator, and senior editor of BOMB magazine. Her poetry books include two in English, Talk Shows and Public Domain, and two in Spanish. She has translated Latin American poets and edited multilingual anthologies. Four, her new poetry book, is just out from Switchback. She will be reading at Bowery Poetry Club on May 19 at 4 pm, part of the Segue Series.

THE BRODMANN AREAS // NORTE MAAR

April 13, 2012

EJ Hauser's photo essay of the collaborative project entitle The Brodmann Areas, choreographed by Julia K. Gleich. With the help of artists Paul D’Agostino, Audra Wolowiec, Margo Wolowiec, and Tamara Gonzales. The work presents a movement based exploration of the dives, gaps and synapses that define the 52 areas designating the regions of the cerebral cortex of the brain. For the evenings of April 12, 13 and 14, as well as the afternoon of April 15, Norte Maar will take over the Center for Performance Research.

Some of these artists are old friends. Some of them have never met. This show is a way for them to meet and for their work to converse.

Presented as a melange, this exhibition has an earthy flavor with a clean finish. Balanced and light-bodied, it combines honey sweetness with a hint of citrus for a smooth-looking exhibition—perfect for viewing all day.
