WHY IT’S ON THE LIST

With a new leader at the helm and a comprehensive business transformation underway, Target underscored its commitment to diversity and inclusion this year with the introduction of inclusivity as one of its core beliefs.

Target’s primary focus is on leveraging the diverse skills, perspectives and backgrounds of its more than 330,000 team members worldwide to drive business outcomes that positively impact guests, team members, shareholders and communities.

For example:

  • Through Target’s cross-cultural mentoring initiative, mentors—including
senior leadership—receive comprehensive training and support to ensure
mentoring success. Mentoring success is also part of performance-review
    evaluations.
  • Target also actively engages with certified diverse suppliers to support all
areas of its organization, with a particular focus on integrating diversesupplier
    offerings into its merchandising assortment.
  • Target’s use of executive-sponsored employee resource groups (ERGs) to
drive business outcomes is another area of focus. ERGs routinely play a role
in informing—and driving—key business strategies that fulfill the needs and
fuel the potential of Target’s diverse guests.

DIVERSITY LEADERSHIP

“Diversity and inclusivity play critically important roles in organizations like ours that serve consumers and guests. Providing a work environment where all feel welcome, respected and valued for their unique backgrounds translates into a meaningful and engaging guest experience. Diversity and inclusivity make our team and Target better for our guests and communities.”
spacer Kim Strong
Vice President, Diversity & Inclusion

“At Target, Diversity & Inclusion is a mindset. It’s about being different, each one of us, and having those differences celebrated, acknowledged and leveraged for the good of our team members, guests and company. At its best, Diversity & Inclusion is how we drive business outcomes. We seek out varied backgrounds, styles and perspectives because the more inclusive we are, the better we do as a team and a company.”
