In addition to our biennial conference we sponsor smaller regional symposia in our non-conference years. If you would like ASLE to sponsor a regional conference or symposium, please see our Proposal Guidelines. To find out more about past US and international events, see our Off-Year Symposia Archives.

ASLE is sponsoring two events in 2014:

Writing in Place: A Summer Writers’ Workshop

Place, Nature, Food, and Culture

June 9-20, 2014
Sterling College, Craftsbury Common, VT

Website

Three members of ASLE participated with a number of others in this 2-week writers’ workshop, which brought together leading writers, teachers, and environmental thinkers to explore resonances between place, nature, food, and culture in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. Participants worked alongside Workshop faculty–including John Elder, Clare Walker Leslie, Rowan Jacobsen, and Ginger Strand–while crafting their own creative non-fiction, narrative, memoir, journal, or other genre.  They could draw on the expertise of the faculty, the group, and capitalize on the place-rootedness of Sterling College’s rural setting.
