About WVU Tech

A campus within the West Virginia University system, WVU Tech offers more than 40 different academic programs and 81 percent of our 1200+ enrolled students receive some form of financial aid. When they’re not busy studying fields such as engineering, criminal justice, nursing, computer science or forensic investigation, Golden Bears enjoy an active student life.

Tradition

Founded in 1895 as the Montgomery Preparatory School, WVU Tech has a rich history of academic excellence.

Academics

WVU Tech consists of two academic colleges: the College of Business, Humanities and Social Sciences and the Leonard C. Nelson College of Engineering and Sciences. WVU Tech offers more than 40 academic programs, including 8 ABET-accredited engineering programs. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 12:1 and an average class size of 17 students, our classes provide students with personalized attention in a supportive environment.

Accreditation

As a division of West Virginia University, WVU Tech is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Several academic programs, including engineering, engineering technology and nursing, hold specialized accreditation.

Location

WVU Tech is located in Montgomery, West Virginia, among the picturesque mountains of Appalachia. The University is centrally located between two of West Virginia’s largest cities, the state capital Charleston and Beckley.

Athletics

The Golden Bears compete in 15 varsity sports.

Campus Life

With more than 30 student organizations, including academic honor societies, Greek life, and intramurals, WVU Tech offers a vibrant campus life. On-campus residents live in one of two co-ed residence halls: Ratliff Hall and Maclin Hall.

Governance

WVU Tech is governed by the West Virginia University Board of Governors and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.
