Visual Boy Advance-M SVN 1025

if I had a drum roll I would use it now, but this is as good as it get's

Introducing a whole new vba-m release using a brand new interface using WxWidgets, special thanks to darktjm for coding the interface code and donating it to our use, this will allow for a more universal/cross platform interface for all operating systems

currently though win32 and linux releases will be made available (not that I personally don't like macs because I do like them, I just don't have one to compile a release for you guys :/)

today though I'll be releasing the first binary for windows users
some stuff worth noting for this first binary is that ffmpeg is statically linked as well as cairo graphics, which will be subject to change in future builds to help reduce executable bloat.

to download this release is here

also please note, there will be bound to be bugs in this release
some notable is save states both loading and saving will cause the emulator to crash occasionally but saving via games save feature seems to be working.
In short, if you are going to be reporting bugs, be detailed about it, what you were trying to do, operating system, anything less than detailed will be ignored.

Future builds of VBA-M may require the VC10 runtime

since some of us have moved over to using VS2010, not to mention the improved intrinsics and better code gen SSE optimisations (2008 was buggy in this regard), future builds of VBA-M for Windows may require the Visual C+ 2010 x86 runtime.

If/when this change takes place, the readme.mfc will be updated with the VC10 download links.

VBA-M [svn 956 MFC] info and download

General Info:
VBA-M is a [Super] Game Boy [Color / Advance] emulator for Windows, Linux & Mac. Here you can get information about the latest development build of the Windows version and download it while you're at it.

Changes in this release:
Reverted changes by shuffle2's (gb_apu_state warning cleanup) as i(squall) prefer working sound over a clean build log.
Added VC2010 project files
Enabled SSE/Instrinsic optimisations in VC2010 project file (safer to do than in 2008) (VS2008 builds are still built without code gen optimisations)
Updated NASM

VBA2 progress

During my semester break, I worked on VBA2.

I now understand the ARM core reasonably and I started rewriting the complete graphical subsystem.

I can already process VRAM data and the video registers to produce bitmaps of (character mode) BG layers. (See screenshot)

Instead of rendering only a single line, I process the whole BGs at once, so that should give some nice speed boosts.

I plan to let this new C++ class for managing the GBA's graphical subsystem produce 128x128 ... 1024x1024 bitmap planes, which a hardware accelerated OpenGL renderer will further process with special effects like scaling, rendering, color manipulation and of course combining, clipping & rendering it all to the screen. Maybe this will also look better in higher resolutions. With a few hacking it might even be possible to get real widescreen support on some games.
Sprites are also perfect work for OpenGL instead of a software renderer.

If you want to help me and have a good knowledge of OpenGL, don't hesitate to contact me. I will do the preprocess work and you do the rendering.

VBA-Minimum

Here's a funny binary of the cleaned & stripped core + GUI version.

spacy51.sp.funpic.de/VBA-M/VBAMin.7z
Not using assembler, so it might be slower. Also a lot of features removed. Just use it if you are curious. Has automatic save detection though. Save states not compatible anymore. Save states will not be comaptible with anything, only battery files. Screen capturing&recordning might not work anymore.

Source code here: code.google.com/p/gbxemu/source/checkout

Next step will be rewriting the core to a clean C++ class in a static or dynamic library. After that is finished & working correctly, features will be readded in a clean manner. Don't expect any binaries soon.
