Copyright Questions and Answers

Can I take the information at Annoyances.org and put it on my own site?

We're sorry, but No.

But what's wrong with copying the content you worked hard on to add to my own website? Isn't that why you're making it publicly available?

Sorry, that's called plagiarism. Not only is it unethical, but it's against the law. Just because the information on this site is publicly available, doesn't mean it is public domain.

If you want the visitors to your website to benefit from the information at Annoyances.org, please just provide a link to Annoyances.org, like this: Visit Annoyances.org

Here's the code you can use to make a link on your website:

<a class="www.annoyances.org/">Visit Annoyances.org</a>

What if I ask permission? Is it then okay to republish the content at Annoyances.org?

No, sorry. The information at Annoyances.org has already been published here, and is protected by copyright. Publication and redistribution are strictly forbidden. Please don't ask.

Do I have to ask permission or notify you if I place a link to Annoyances.org on my site?

No, you do not have to ask permission to link to us or notify us once you've linked to Annoyances.org.

Well, I see the copyright notice at the bottom of every page at Annoyances.org. Doesn't it make it ok to copy your information if I simply change the copyright, and pass off your work as mine?

Ok, I know what you're thinking. This is a pretty stupid question.

But there are a lot of people out there who think this an acceptable thing to do. If you're one of them, we have some advice for you: try writing something of your own. It doesn't help anybody to steal from other websites.

This isn't about profits, but rather recognition and credit for the work that has gone into the design and content of this site. When you plagiarize, you are doing a disservice to the author, as well as those who view your stolen material.

If you want to put Windows tips on your own site, please either write your own or just link to Annoyances.org, as described above.

For more information, see the Annoyances.org Copyright Notice.

What if I want to print out your website and hand it out to others?

You're entitled to print out any content for your own use (under the "fair use" laws), but distributing Annoyances.org content to others (whether you charge for it or not) is also a violation of our copyright.

Note that an inexpensive (and legal) alternative is to simply get yourself one of the Annoyances books. Not only did someone else do all the work for you by making a hard copy of the material, but the books contain a lot more material and depth than this website. You'll also be supporting this website, which will compel the author to write more!
