Do you like origami hearts? What about origami cats? This sweet and easy heart is the creation of Brians Tjipto (Indonesia). The model has a pointy flap that forms a convenient pocket into which a love message or  romantic invitation can be placed.

Additionally, I thought to add a small cat head as an expression of love for lady Coco, our beloved kitty.

The following step-by-step video shows how to make Brians’ cat and also how to fold and fix the cat head. Thank you Brians for granting permission to present your origami heart model.

Tips and suggestions for making the origami cat love

  • Use thin paper such as ‘Kami’.
  • Two squares of paper are needed, one for the heart and one for the cat head.
  • The side of the square used for the cat head should be half of the side of the square used for the body.
  • A 6 x 6-inch (15 × 15cm) piece of paper or bigger is perfect for the heart.
  • A 3 x 3-inch (7.5 x.7.5cm) piece of paper is the corresponding size for the cat.
  • The finished heart shows only one side of the paper. It isn’t necessary to use paper with a different color on each side.
  • The cat head does show both sides of the paper. For a great effect use paper with different color on each side.
