Summary:

WHEN STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT

He lives in the shadows. As the mysterious masked avenger known as the Ghost of St. Giles, Godric St. John’s only goal is to protect the innocent of London. Until the night he confronts a fearless young lady pointing a pistol at his head-and realizes she is his wife . . .

BECOME LOVERS . . .

Lady Margaret Reading has vowed to kill the Ghost of St. Giles-the man who murdered her one true love. Returning to London, and to the man she hasn’t seen since their wedding day, Margaret does not recognize the man behind the mask. Fierce, commanding, and dangerous, the notorious Ghost of St. Giles is everything she feared he would be-and so much more . . .

DESIRE IS THE ULTIMATE DANGER

When passion flares, these two intimate strangers can’t keep from revealing more of themselves than they had ever planned. But when Margaret learns the truth-that the Ghost is her husband-the game is up and the players must surrender . . . to the temptation that could destroy them both.

My Thoughts:

This was once again another great book in the Maiden Lane series. Once again I really do enjoy books where we get to see characters we have already meet. Its so fun and entertaining to catch a peek and see how happily ever after can come about for characters we have previously enjoyed reading about.  But this is the story of Godric and Meg. A couple that married 2 years ago to protect Meg when she finds herself pregnant with her lovers child. Godric is severely encouraged to marry Meg, and from his perspective as long as its a marriage of connivence and a long distance one at that everything is fine.  After all Meg is not the only one who was in mourning, Gofric lost his wife to a long and lingering illness. So her you have two characters who know loss, personally and up close. Godric turns into a recluse and his only real outlet is to help the people, especially the kids St. Giles as a solace to his pain. Meg turns to helping her new family and taking care of her new home in the country, as she mourns her second loss the child she was carrying that was the cause of the marriage to Godric. Only she also harbors a deep desire to harm the Ghost of St. Giles who she holds responsible for her beloved Rogers death.  Eventually she breaks the status quo of their marriage, the desire to have a child and enact revenge are finally enough to force her to act.  The interactions between Godric and Meg are fun to see, Meg is a strong woman and wont let Godric walk all over her. Godric is a good man, and he steps up to his responsibility as a husband and bends to Megs wishes while she is in town. They have their ups and downs during their courtship but the two of them come to an understanding and they both work hard to uphold their ends of the agreement.  During this time they really do come to fall in love, and see what is really important to them. I like the fact that there is not a lot of going behind each others back to keep information from the other or lie to get what they want. When one is told to back off or they can’t be told something they accept it, not happily, but with our undo drama. They really are great together and this is a good story. If you like the other Maiden Lane stories you will like this one, and have fun seeing how this Ghost of St Giles handles things.
