An update…
In all honesty, I find myself unsure what to do with the site. It doesn’t make enough to pay for itself, and it’s a huge amount of thankless work. Work that often has me looking at some pretty distasteful stuff. I’m failing to see the benefits of continuing it as it was, and was considering just closing it up because my other job makes enough that I could careless if this continued.
However, I started working on problems Google had with the site, and noticed the traffic was increasing. This makes me wonder what would happen if I fix all the problems it has. Perhaps it would make enough to make it at least pay for itself again. Then again it’s a huge amount of work to whip it all into shape, and I’m not going to lie… if it’s all going to end up with me having to sort Furry, Gore, Loli, etc again…. I would gladly pay the $15 a month the site is currently making to not do that. =D Especially when other bills are taken into account for the site… such as the renewal of domain names that is coming up in 6 days, it will cost me roughly $60 to do that. Yay…
Here is what I’m thinking the real future of the site is. I’ve been sorting through images, and let’s be honest there is an awesome amount of crap in the galleries. Images so unworthy of being in a gallery that when I started this I would have scoffed at anybody who collected them. Probably citing something about artistic standards and how people should have them. But along the line I got into the fast food thinking of more is better, or quantity versus quality. However at some point the hosting cost on being a hentai vacuum cleaner is much higher, and it just means you guys are sorting through the crap to find the good stuff. In all honesty there are countless sites out there like that, and you know what? They can keep them, I find I don’t even want to frequent places where I have to look through trash for treasures.
So I think I’ll just opt for quality, this hosting account allows for 250,000 files… Easily enough to house the vast majority of hentai images that are worth a damn on the net. If it would exceed that, instead of paying more money to host garbage, I’ll just get rid of the garbage for better images.
Of course people will ask why I opted not to go for the other plan. And really it’s a question of cost, hosting the whole gallery either takes multiple cheap accounts… Or an entire server due to it’s extreme size. Servers aren’t cheap and usually cost $200+ a month, ads aren’t going to pay that. Or at least have essentially failed to so far. So it’s a nice plan, but I’m not about to fork out still more wasted money on other people looking at porn.
That plan compared to my quality plan requires a lot of capital, with little to no chance of return any time soon. Where as the quality plan requires me to renew this domain name for $15 per year… And I already have the hosting for the next two years paid for anyway. Then it’s just my labor, which is already pretty taxed working 6-7 days a week. But hey, I can live with that.
Going forward, I expect all the domains involved in this site besides this one to wear out. I haven’t decided on if I want to save the forum or not, mostly it’s frequented by almost nobody.. so I don’t super care. But if enough people do I might save it, let me know in the comments on that or something. And I figure I’ll bring the doujinshi back at one point or another, losing those was unfortunate accident when my motherboard fried, and the domain/hosting for it ran out at the same time. I do still have it all, however it’s currently on my desktop hard drives and I’m using my Surface Pro as my computer at the moment. Mostly so I don’t have to buy a new processor/RAM/Motherboard (ancient technology, nothing’s compatible anymore). I’ll snag them off there at some point.
For now I’m just going to fix/sort the hentai images, and likely update on Sundays. I do usually have that day off at least. Going to aim for quality images only, and at the very least even if none of you stay to look… I will end up with a sorted collection of stuff I want to look at. So it won’t all be for naught no matter what happens. 😉
P.S. I’m just going to tell you right now if you’re looking for Furry, Loli, Scat, Gore… You won’t find it here after I’m done. I’m literally going to do a happy dance as I delete it. So many problems arise out of having it, it’s just not worth it. Plus I’m no longer getting paid to look at it, which is pretty much what it would take to have that kind of stuff here again.

So just to touch on a few things…
1. I’m currently stopping on requests temporarily, at least for hentai. I’ll still add assorted doujinshi to NVDoujinshi. This is because I plan on updating galleries as I move them over to the new gallery system anyway, and let me tell you… I have a lot to go through. 😉
2. The movies/games section are going to return at some point. My biggest problem with it right now is that the gallery system for it is archaic at best, and I think a streaming option is more than possible for the movies. As for the games, those I’m not sure on how I can improve them over just a direct download. But I’ll get to that once I’m done with my other site projects.
3. Three learning about how Sexkey wasn’t letting people resign up, really does answer a lot of questions. Not sure what happened to them as a company, but they’re just terrible now.
The Future
Recently I’ve had some major changes in my life, and they force me to actively change how I run this site going forward. For starters, I have a new job which already has me doing less updates purely due to time restrictions. And also I’ve recently been offered a free college education. Clearly these things are going to eat up most of my time, and obviously leave little to no time for the site. And sure, I could just stop running this site entirely, leaving the site to vanish into the Internet’s sordid past. But I think there’s another option…
Let me tell you about my vision for the future of the site. I wish to see this site supported by user content uploads, and no longer reliant on what little free time I will have going forward. With a minor amount of ads just keeping it going.
Of course the first thing everybody will point out is… “But Niddy, the ads have failed repeatedly in the past.” And yes, yes you would be right. However this time it’s different, before they needed to make hundreds of dollars, now they need to make $50. That’s right, I’ve reduced the site’s cost so far, that this very easily attainable goal is available. Especially considering before that we almost made a few hundred.
Of course I don’t plan to change to user uploads immediately or anything, heck just changing up the gallery will take a great deal of time. So I will of course continue to update for some time to come, and even once the site supports user uploads, I will still add at least some content as well. This pretty much means that if you like what I’m doing here, it won’t be changing any time soon.
Now let’s talk about how I plan on going about all this, first we’re going to ditch Sexkey. (This decision is quite easy since either nobody is signing up for it, or Sexkey isn’t paying me anyway.) And replace it with minimal ads.
Then I’m going to divide the site up into two sites, NVHentai.com and NVDoujinshi.com. This is so that I can convert sections of the site over to the new gallery instead of all at once. Which will be very important given the scope of this project. Plus it allows me greater freedom to garner more traffic via link exchanges, bonus deal.
Then starting with NVHentai I’m going to upload one gallery at a time to a new gallery system that supports user uploads, and as I do I will delete the one from the current gallery system. I would do it all at once, but due to file quantity limits I can’t. Once this process is finished, we should be golden. I will of course keep the WordPress front end, so that no matter what happens the site will be accessible and organized during all this.
After I finish with that, then I’ll get to work on NVDoujinshi.com, and tackle the issues inherent with doujinshi uploads versus single image ones. But that’s a bridge we’ll cross when we have to, until then hopefully you agree with my vision of the future. Mostly because I simply don’t have time for how it’s been done in the past, so it’s not like there’s much choice anyway. 😉
