Study of Diversity Faculty Projects

Professor Lynnette Overby and Professor Gabrielle Foreman

Description:

“Creative Collaborations: Choreopoetry and the Art of African American History”

Professor Gabrielle Foreman and Professor Lynnette Overby are working together on a performance piece entitled “Dave the Potter’s Couplet Pots: Dancing History and Dred Scott” which builds on their inaugural piece “Sketches: The Life of Harriet E. Wilson in Dance, Poetry and Music.”<www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJgWgL9Zb4A> Overby’s  choreography is based on Foreman’s research and includes original poetry by Kennedy Center artists Glenis Redmond and music by talented composers. Now on YouTube, “Sketches” is considered both performance and scholarship. Engagement with educators and high school students is a crucial part of the spirit of collaboration that enlivens their work.  The Undergraduate Research Program Summer Scholar will assist the researchers in the creation of the development, implementation and assessment of this original work.
