Stanford University Medical Center Project: Renewal

Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford is expanding to accommodate the growing needs of infants, children and expectant mothers who seek the hospital’s advanced care and research. The expansion, which will include a new main building, adds 521,000 square feet to the approximately 300,000-square-foot existing hospital. Scheduled to open in 2017, the new facility will optimize the hospital’s services and infrastructure, adding more beds, private rooms, state-of-the-art operating suites, family-friendly amenities and the flexible floor space the hospital needs to adapt to new technologies and streamline services.

The project will allow Stanford Medicine pediatricians and obstetricians to use the most advanced technologies and treatments in an environment that focuses on family-friendly amenities and services.

The hospital is at the core of the Stanford Children’s Health, the San Francisco Bay Area’s largest and most successful enterprise exclusively dedicated to children and expectant mothers. Stanford Children’s Health is a pediatric and obstetric network that provides world-class care and extraordinary outcomes across the Bay Area, Northern California and the U.S. western region.

Delivering care for virtually all pediatric and obstetric conditions, the hospital collaborates with the Stanford University School of Medicine to streamline the process of bringing new therapies and innovative strategies to patients while caring for emotional needs as well. It is the only children’s hospital in the Bay Area—and one of the few in the country—to combine pediatric, obstetric and newborn services under one roof.

The hospital broke ground on its expansion in September 2012, and the project remains on schedule to open in 2017. The expanded space will create 149 new rooms and make Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford the most technologically advanced children’s hospital in the United States.
