By Brooklyn heralds the wealth of creative talent, artistry, determination to growing Brooklyn by enterprising Brooklynites. By Brooklyn is a unique space that exists beyond its brick-and-mortar walls, creating a community for artisans to share their experiences, hone their craft and create further opportunities for the expansion of their artistic endeavors.

About the Owner

 

 

Gaia DiLoreto is the founder of By Brooklyn, the only store that exclusively sells products made in Brooklyn.

In April of 2011, Gaia DiLoreto opened the doors of By Brooklyn in Carroll Gardens. Since then, the store has sold the works and goods of hundreds of makers representing the best the borough of Brooklyn has to offer.  For 12 years she excelled in the corporate finance industry before leaving to explore a new path.  As a recovering corporate finance robot she reinvented her career through her studies at the Institute of Culinary Education.

In addition to being the owner of By Brooklyn, Gaia serves on the advisory council of exalt youth, co-chairs Brooklyn Bounty, and is active with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce on the Hospitality and Tourism Council and the Brooklyn Made Advisory Board.  She also throws dog parties as fundraisers for local animal rescue organizations.

Gaia received a BA from Trinity College in Connecticut in 1996.   She lives in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, with her cats Sadie and Guido.
