Support Us

spacer As well as being the only dedicated Dance House in the East Midlands, Déda is also a registered charity.

We help people to enhance their lives through dance and related artforms, offering a programme which engages a diverse audience through performance, producing and participation.

Our outreach programmes - delivered in a variety of settings by our Dance Development and Learning Team - can address education, health & wellbeing, and social issues with some of the hardest-to-reach groups in the city.

Déda is a company limited by guarantee (03100413) and a registered charity (1053633), receiving funding from Arts Council England and Derby City Council.

Déda: Two Years On, the Capital Project and our £10-Up! campaign

In 2011, support for our 'Save Déda' campaign helped us to Keep Derby Dancing.

Public opposition to Derby City Council's announced cuts to Arts funding in October that year led to their postponement for a year and the start of a consultation on Arts funding.  The cuts, if implemented then, would have crippled Déda. However, support for 'Save Déda' and that breathing space became a springboard to creating a stronger, more resilient Déda

Two years ago, despite a bleak public funding outlook, that public support for Déda spurred us to look for a way for Déda to not just survive but thrive as a lively and valuable community resource dedicated to dance and allied arts.  We knew that we had to be proactive, realistic and imaginative and to use the 'freeze' time to devise and implement a way forward that would reduce our dependence on public funding and bring even more benefit to Derby and the region.

Two years on, our strategy has brought Déda new partnerships, new networks and new building works.  The last is our modest but game-changing Capital Project of expansion and renovation, which will enable us to increase our income, maintain a healthy artistic and commercial balance and reduce our dependence on public funding.  Work on the Project is scheduled to start in June, with completion in September, ready for use in October 2014.

We anticipate that in 2015/16, the first full year of use, the improvements will bring Déda an additional £91,000. This additional income will be generated through exciting initiatives including the delivery of a new Dance Degree in partnership with the University of Derby and aerial circus training and activities, including Circus Sundays for families.

The Capital Project cost is £412,000, and we have raised all but £8,000. To find the balance, we have launched our £10-Up! campaign.   Ten pounds - or more - from Déda friends and supporters can make our goal a reality and increase the best of dance and the arts in Derby and the region.

The £10-Up! campaign

We are asking Déda's friends and supporters to donate £10 - or more - to our £10-Up! campaign.  Our goal is to raise the £8,000 needed to meet costs of £412,000.  Your donation will complement tremendous support from Arts Council England and trusts and foundations, plus an allocation from our funds that account for all but £8,000 of the £412,000 costs.

Generous support to date from organisations that themselves have huge demands on reduced funds confirms the value of Déda's work and the quality of the project.  We very much hope that you will help us bring more dance and other arts activities to Derby and the region while asking less of the public purse.

You can support the Capital Project at https://mydonate.bt.com/charities/deda - and of course if you are a UK taxpayer, you can claim Gift Aid on your donation.

Legacies

Déda gratefully accepts bequests.

Many people regularly review their will, and discuss with their family or financial adviser leaving a donation to charity, such as Déda. Charitable legacies are paid before tax is deducted, and so reduce the amount of inheritance tax that will be due on your estate. Your lawyer or solicitor will be able to advise you how to incorporate a donation in your will.

Full copies of Déda’s governing documents are of course available to anyone who is interested, and you will be most welcome to visit us to find out more about the work being carried out, what happens behind the scenes, and to attend or participate in events.

Please contact us on 01332 370911 or email Steve Woodward, Head of Marketing.

Individual Gifts

Déda gratefully accepts donations and contributions in order to secure our success for the future.

If you are considering supporting Déda now or in the future, you will be most welcome to visit us to find out more about the work being carried out, what happens behind the scenes, and to attend or participate in events.

Plus One - A gift to inspire

Major arts and cultural organisations in Derby have joined forces with Barnardo's to give children in care the chance to experience live performance, film and workshops in the city.

Plus One aims to inspire young people and spark an on-going interest in the arts and culture in Derby. For some young people, it will be the first time they experience opportunities of this kind with their foster family or carers.

Donate a ticket for a child in care.

When booking tickets for either Derby Theatre, Déda, Derby LIVE, QUAD or Sinfonia ViVA you will be given the opportunity to contribute to the Plus One scheme.

We will ensure that donated tickets are given to children in care and their carers, whether they are fostered or in children's homes, in Derbyshire and Derby city. Every ticket donated through the scheme will go directly to these beneficiaries.
