What is the Food Futures Accreditation?

Food Futures Truly Good Food is designed to recognise and reward those eating establishments who are trying to make Manchester healthier and happier by providing healthy, sustainable food.

The scheme has been running for sometime, and has been rebranded and developed by Edge Street Events, the team behind the Manchester Food and Drink Festival. Now, with nearly 40 restaurants accredited, this website has been developed. Its been commissioned by Food Futures and developed by Edge Street, in order to give the scheme a proper online presence in the region, to help consumers make dining choices based on health and sustainability, and to allow you, the caterer to accredit yourself online.

Food Futures Truly Good Food is unique in its approach as it recognises eating establishments from a variety of culinary backgrounds and statuses – from fine dining to workplace canteens.  All venues are assessed in the context of their own market – we’re looking for restaurants and food companies that are doing something over and above ‘the norm’ in their dining genre.

The accreditation can be awarded at one of three levels of achievement – Bronze, Silver and Gold.  The accreditation lasts for two years and can be upgraded to the next level of achievement one year after the initial award is received. If after you are assessed it is decided that your venue isn’t able to be accredited, you can try again within any time after if you have made improvements in respect of health and sustainability.

Manchester Food Futures is a partnership of the public sector, private sector and communities working together to improve the city’s food. We believe that everyone in Manchester has a right to good food: no-one should have this right denied because of where they live, their income, or their background. We believe that good food is enjoyable; it is safe; nutritious; environmentally sustainable; and produced ethically and fairly.

The Food Futures vision is of a city with a culture of good food. Access to affordable fresh food will be at the heart of local communities. Local food production and distribution will be commonplace, supporting the local environment, health and improving neighbourliness and participation in the community. The public sector, private sector and communities will work in partnership to improve diet and nutrition in the city, and to reduce the environmental impact of the food consumed here. Manchester will be a place where people choose a healthy and well balanced diet; where people can enjoy a wide variety of food at its best, at home or eating out; and where food preparation is safe and hygienic wherever and whenever people eat.
