Normal operating schedule

Reception and Service Desks

Computer and network services

All services normally run with operations staff present (attended operation), subject to the holidays and vulnerable periods shown below, as follows:

Monday to Friday 0800 - 1700

At other times they run with no operations staff present (unattended operation).

Vulnerable periods

The following periods are designated as vulnerable. During these periods, services may be interrupted for maintenance or other dedicated work. Announcements of services likely to be disrupted during vulnerable periods are made 24 hours in advance (or, for deferred emergency maintenance, by 15.00 the preceding period) in UIS News and, where possible, on the appropriate systems.

Saturday, Sunday Sat 0000 to Mon 0800
CUDN Monday to Saturday 0730-0900 [1] 1700-1900 [1], [2]
Sunday 0000 to Mon 0800
JANET Tuesday 0700-0900
HR Systems, Student Systems, Moodle, CamTools Tuesday and Thursday 0700-0900
Finance System Tuesday and Thursday 0600-0900
High Performance Computing Tuesday 10.00-18.00

Notes:
0845-0900 and 1700-1715 are avoided when possible.
1700-1900 is not normally used for non-urgent work that might disrupt a significant part of the CUDN.

Holidays

Information Services will be closed for the following holiday periods:

Easter 2015 Good Friday 3 April 2015 and Easter Monday 6 April 2015
Early May Bank Holiday Monday 4 May 2015 (closed to personal callers)
Spring Bank Holiday Monday 25 May 2015 (closed to personal callers)
Summer holiday Monday 31 August 2015
Christmas and New Year Closed from personal callers from 2.30pm Thursday 24 December 2015 to Monday 4 January 2016. Arrangements will be made to provide support for specific services.

Unattended operation

When a service is running unattended, if it should fail, the service might not be reinstated until the next period of attended operation. In practice, staff monitor services from time to time outside normal working hours and are often able to reinstate them, but this can not be relied upon.
