NYS Elevation Data

Digital elevation models (DEM) with 10-meter spacing are available for most of New York thanks to a partnership between USGS and NYSDEC. These DEMs were produced using contour lines compiled for USGS 7.5-minute quadrangle maps, and are hosted by CUGIR. More recently, LIDAR has been collected over much of the State in many different projects. The NYS ITS GIS Program Office, in partnership with NYSDEC, NYCDEP, USGS, USDA, FEMA, National Park Service, NYSDOT and the NY Thruway authority, is working to release updated and higher resolution DEMs based on the LIDAR data. These datasets and related information are available through the NYSGIS Clearinghouse.
