What's new in the Y12 release?
We have made Fronter easier to use by improving workflow and
navigation. When you upgrade to the new version, we hope you will
enjoy our new features and improvements.
Tabs
Last year we introduced tabs. With Y12 you can use tabs to improve
your workflow in new ways. For every room and personal tool you
open, a new tab will be added. An open tab can be closed or pinned:
Pinning a tab means that you keep it for future use, so that your
favourite room and personal tool tabs are ready for you when you
next log in.
Improved workflow in the Archive
We have improved the workflow for creating content, folders and
uploading files. Dropdown menus replace the old buttons. You choose
what you want to add or create from the menus.
Play design - new personal toolbox
To keep the Play design menu area clutter free, we have set a
limit on the number of icons displayed in the top menu. A personal
toolbox opens to list the rest of your personal tools.
Centered content
We have introduced a max width on all content in Fronter of 1440
pixels. This way it is easier to read and get a good overview.
Centered content means items are close to each other, making
navigation faster and the look and feel more consistent.
Keyboard navigation
It's now possible to navigate the top menu by using the keyboard.
We have also introduced some keyboard shortcuts that will help the
user navigate Fronter more efficiently. Adding keyboard navigation
improves accessibility, and navigation for our expert users will be
quicker.
New time zone settings
To help moving in and out of Daylight Savings Time (DST), we have
changed the time zone settings. The contact card now displays the
users location with the correct time automatically applied.
New date picker
Wherever you have the option to select a date within Fronter tool
you will now find the easy-to-use date picker.
Status page
We have made improvements to help room owners and administrators
with the process of copying, exporting and importing rooms. A new
room tab provides an overview of the progress and direct access to
the rooms.
Test tool update
We have introduced a new question type (Yes/No) as well as
improvements to the assessment process and the overview provided by
the tool. Further improvements will be introduced to the test tool
throughout Y12. The matrix question type will be removed.
Discontinued tools
Fronter is moving forward, and some old tools will be left behind.
It is time to say goodbye to:
- Old ILP and Goal tool: The old ILP tool will be discontinued. Existing student data will be kept. (This does not apply to the "new" ILP tool introduced in Fronter Y10)
- Old Custom design tool: Custom designs created using this tool will no longer be available in Y12.
- 360 degree evaluation
- Marvin chat
- Whiteboard
- Tetris
- Kark
- Guided tour(replaced by the new Help)
Looking forward
In the future we will release new functionality in
increments, rather than in large annual chunks. More functionality
will become available in Fronter Y12 after the initial release.
Expect to see beta versions of new hand-in and assignment tools
during autumn 2012, as well as further improvements to the test
tool. All upcoming releases will be communicated in a timely
fashion to keep you up-to-date on developments.
