Saints Row 4 coming August 20th, not to Wii U [Update]

Mar 15th 2013 by Ashley King

[Update: A mod on the Volition forums has spoken and stated that the game will be available for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Unfortunate.]

When THQ went bankrupt earlier this year, many thought their beloved franchises would die off, too. Thankfully that’s not the case, as Deep Silver rescued Volition Games and the Saints Row franchise and will now serve as publisher for the series. The latest installment is Saint’s Row IV and will be released August 20th in the United States and August 23rd everywhere else.

The official announcement of the game only states “next-gen consoles” as the target, so we’re not sure if the game will be available for Wii U or not. Nintendo fans have been lobbying pretty hard for Grand Theft Auto V, so Deep Silver could definitely win some brownie points by making the game available to Wii U owners.

Much like Saints Row 3, the fourth installment appears to be full of over the top sandbox fun. Let us know your thoughts below.

This game looks insane. I loved the third. So regardless of whether it comes out on Wii U or not, I will be buying this.

  • Jon Turner

At this time, no, it isn’t. Or at least according to Joystiq. Now let’s not write this off completely; MAYBE it’ll happen, maybe it won’t. But we’ll see.

  • https://www.facebook.com/BlueLightningTechnicalServices Bob Wilkerson

It will never come to Wii U. Nintendo only has kiddie games

    /sarcasm

But it looks like this will not be made for Wii U, XBOX720 or PS4

    • Nathaniel Lopez

It has been confirmed that it will NOT be coming out for Wii U.

I hate it when people say “next gen consoles” and dont include the Wii U. It’s fucking next gen.

        • Nathaniel Lopez

Yeah, I know…but I understand why they don’t include it…they don’t think it’ll sell well what with all the unjust negativity the Wii U has been receiving. That’s why I don’t trust most reviewers.

          • twitter.com/DJDALLYDEE Dallas Scott Cooper

The only way to break this unjust negativity is to start bringing some games to Wii U. Why developers don’t want to take the chance, I don’t know. We clearly have enough people for the developers to make some kind of revenue.

          • Nathaniel Lopez

Yeah, from what I remember Nintendo gave out it’s dev toolkits for free, not sure if they are still doing that but there’s technically no excuse, unless agreements and stuff go sour like with EA.

          • sithWiiU

They want that revenue to be profit, not loss.

        • me

read the article, it says they only want the game to be for CURRENT gen consoles.

          • www.facebook.com/Realityglitch Christopher Coonan

High hopes for a Saints Row 5, then.

Looks like I’ll be getting this on PC, the only other real alternative for me these days.

          • https://twitter.com/Zorpix_Fang Zorpix

            it said next before

          • The_Last_Metroid

i had better get my wii out.

        • Takarashi282

That is completely 110% true. Spec fanboys assume that a new console has to be significantly more powerful than its predecessor to be a so-called ‘Next Generation Console’. Roughly translated, ‘Next Generation’ means a new line of (such and such a thing), basically the offspring of its predecessor. Notice how there’s nothing stating: significant improvements are mandatory to be ‘Next Generation.’ These said retards are using a non-existent meaning to the term.

not to mention the idiots who thought there’d be a huge ps2 to ps3 graphics jump again

      • angel

this is how business works, if u tell they would not be getting it, the people or buyers wanted more. this is just a business moves to get more sales

        • Nathaniel Lopez

Yeah, I know. I can’t help but think of the South Park episode where Cartman owns a theme park but doesn’t let anyone in; Allowing hype and interest to build up, thus allowing more people to want admittance because of it’s exclusivity.

      • WiiUltra

Who even wants this game? Haha. I’m not interested.

  • cam

On the forums, a fan asked the moderator (Whos a volition employee), if it will be on WIiu or Ps4, and they said “We have no plans for a Wiiu or PS4 port as the current fanbase is on current gen systems”. Look on the saints row.com forums.

    • Jon Turner

That sounds to me more like an “at this time” announcement rather than “not at all.” Still, that they consider WiiU a next gen system means something.

      • www.facebook.com/dominik.fohl Dominik Fohl

Well WiiU just IS a nextgen console and that’s no “fanboy-talk” but the truth. And I think that Most Wanted U really showed how WiiU should (and damn it, I’d say WILL) evolve over the next time 😀

        • sithWiiU

Wait until the game is actually out. Aliens looked great…then it released. NFS U will be the inferior version.

          • Luminal

Forget my question above. I can see from your comments that you are just a troll. My mistake.

    • Jimmy D. Fugate

Yeah they said Xbox 360, PS3 and PC… no new Xbox, no PS4, no Wii U.

    • twitter.com/DJDALLYDEE Dallas Scott Cooper

That’s so stupid of them. I’m on their current fan base and I’m on Wii U. What the hell, they don’t even know what they are talking about.

  • angel

do i need to play the previous games to understand this game?

    • Twotribesfox

One does not simply understand saint row.

      • angel

so its a type of game were u can just jump in and understand the plot or game

        • www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000272614291 Axel Lenz

…plot? That doesn’t matter in this series. Just jump in and dick around.

          • angel

that sounds like fun, so kinda like a mario game but mature with dicks swinging around with a story

          • Nathaniel Lopez

It’s a sandbox game, think GTA.

          • Nathaniel Lopez

Lol, I suppose that’s one way to look at it.

          • Nathaniel Lopez

Yeah, unfortunately it doesn’t matter anymore, I liked the direction of where SR I was going…

        • Nathaniel Lopez

I’ve only played SR I and from what I understand SR II continues where SR I ended. How it some how got into the future and added all these over-the-top, whacky stuff is beyond me; I actually loved SR I but, when I saw what was going on with SR III, I just gave up on the series. I don’t think you need to play the older games to know what is going on in the story. It Seems like this is the kind of game that will inform you, through cut-scenes and/or dialogue, about what happened before; If it is even still relevant or important.

          • angel

            thanks for deeper explanation

          • twitter.com/DJDALLYDEE Dallas Scott Cooper

I bought Saints Row III hoping that it would be as great as Saints Row II was, but all they did was increase the tits and naked people in the game. This is what the developers thought we wanted but it was not even close. And now these new developers look like they are following the same route. I gave up with Saints Row after Saints Row III.

          • Nathaniel Lopez

I actually thought I was in the Minority. While I’ll agree, I like to do random, reckless stuff in games such as SR and GTA but I like the story and setting in the game to be at least somewhat realistic. I’m not saying it’s a bad game because of it, just not my cup of juice.

      • Nathaniel Lopez

The first one is pretty understandable, you become involved with a gang of hoodlums and do gang-related activities, mostly partaking in riff-raffs involving your rivals.
