The Wii U has been a bit of a sales struggler, with Nintendo lowering sales projections after disappointing January sales. 66,000 units were sold in February, according to the release of NPD numbers yesterday. Wii U sales were outpaced largely by the competition, with the Xbox 360 moving 302,000 units and the PlayStation 3 moving 263,000.
Despite the low number, Macquarie Capital analyst Ben Schachter described the Wii U’s sales as a good performance, noting sales were up 45% compared to January. With the improved sales figures, Nintendo will also be able to meet its sales targets for the fiscal year.
The Wii U Deluxe model remains the bulk of the sales, with nearly 70% of consumers purchasing that version.

Pretty much sums up the typical reaction to reading this post.
Very very bad actually.
……and the negative responds start rolling in, that didn’t take long.
wii u need to release more games… i havent been touching it for a while now..
They will be releasing more games to the Wii U beginning next week. Lego City: Undercover, Need for Speed: Most Wanted U and Zen Pinball 2 (eShop) will be released starting this Tuesday in North America.
And monster hunter 3, right?
Yes.
How can anyone leave out Monster Hunter !?!@?!? This game is going to be an AWESOME time sink… Think World of Warcraft type of addiction.
Well, with the stack of news and game releases coming out, I can see how it could’ve been forgotten. I didn’t forget because it’s the game I’m looking forward to the most.
Yup! The game I’ve been waiting for. Once monster hunter 3 comes out, I’m finally going to buy a Wii u. I didn’t buy one right away because of two reasons. First, I wanted to know if there was any serious issues I needed to know, all new tech have this risk. Second, I have no interest in the games that came out at launch. I mean, it’s fun and all. A game that was great enough has not come yet. I have other priorities at the moment. I’ll wait for a game I really want before putting it on my “must buy ASAP” list.
Why haven’t you touched it for awhile now? There are TONS of great games for the Wii U. Currently I own 10 games and the only reason I’m not buying a few more is that I don’t have the time to play them all so I have to restrain myself and only buy the best ones.
FOR SURE! i just posted something similar to this to a member who said there are no games… there are plenty of games, just noone is buying them… ac3 is amazing, just put 100 hours into it and got the king washington dlc…
just picked this one up. great game so far (in sequence 5 now), though the frame rate takes away form the gameplay at times unfortunately.
Nintendo isnt about launching games RIGHT away! They take there time to make the best ones possible.
Those are ports. Maybe he already bought those games on PS360. 80 percent of the launch titles were ports.
Mario, Nintendo Land, Scribblenauts, Tank Tank Tank, Little Inferno, Mighty Switch Force, there are lots of Nintendo only games on here
Those are ports.
then go buy some more. there are plenty of launch games that i am sure you have not bought or beaten yet, on top of all the indie games in the eshop… i just put 100 hours into ac3, another 50 into me3, another 40 or so into ninja gaiden 3, another 30 into tekken tag 2, etc… there are plenty of good titles, you are just not buying them!
ninja gaiden 3 looks really good, but i just put sooo much time into far cry 3.
uh monster hunters comes out in 4 days, just saying
Same with Lego City
The more I think about it, the more I’m afraid of the E3. Everyone’s claiming that it’s gonna blow our minds. And of course, it’s gotta be. But what if it’s not? Actually it seems like that’s the only chance, nintendo really has left. We know that there’ll be at least 2 big brands from Nintendo, but I think, at the curent state, it really needs something stronger. There’s gotta be some huge new franchise, something that really surprises the press, apart from expected Nintendo-brands. If they could drop such a bomb and additionally unveil more of X and then unveil a new Mario and Mario Kart (which I’m kinda sure will be released soon as MK-games are always shipping in the early stage of a Nintendo console) then this could somehow turn the WiiUs fate. I wasn’t that thrilled to see an E3 lineup in ages …
I remember all this happening with 3DS, and look where it is now!
I don’t blame the consumers they want games obviously! And I am sure with all the great titles launching later this year the sales will catch on!
I am not worried about Wii U sales at all. They might be selling less than last gen right now but the sales are obviously going to pick up later. Its just a matter of “when” not “if”.
Yeah, I always thought that the Wii U is selling pretty okay. Sure, it’s not what Nintendo had expected when they first launched the console but, it’s not an abysmal start; At least there’s traction and it’s been picking up and will continue to do so throughout this year. Well, that’s my opinion.
That’s because the 3DS got a humongous price drop. Also, when Pokemon X/Y comes out, 3DSs will be flying off store shelves like all Nintendo handhelds with main series Pokemon games.
If they would make a Decent Pokemon game for the Wii U it would start selling like crazy.
Better yet, make it a Pokemon MMO like Dragon Quest X but keep the style of the Handheld pokemons.
I would love to own 1. Im drooling on Wii U. Nintendo has the fun factor. Simple but challenging games on Wii and Wii U are much more fun than shooting and exploding games on other consoles. Many exciting games were created by Nintendo and only for Nintendo. If we could see a new healthy dose of 1st party Nintendo exclusive sequels, there is no need of main stream garbage. Wee need more from capcom, sega, retro studios. If I were a head of Nintendo I would push through some great online MMO like Runescape on Wii U. That would boost console sales a lot.
Basically, anything you wish is going to be on the system will not be there, so why do you want it?
Can you please explain your reasons for why you think that?
Trolls don’t explain, they just spew lies 99% of the time with 1% being a bit of a truth.
You suck at trolling. I really mean that. I’m not just saying because your comments are negative towards Nintendo, but because you genuinely suck at trolling. Period. Try harder.
Well Dragon Quest X is being released soon in Japan which is an MMO albeit an updated/port version of a Wii game.
On goal of selling 1 million units in a year? LOL
I think it was half that amount last year, Nintendo adjusted their sales expectation in December-January if I remember correctly.
He’s just here to troll. Pay no mind.
saw him on miiverse…still the same
Wow, I gotta’ hand it to him though, he shelled out at least 299$ just to be able to troll on the Miiverse
