I'm a diesel mechanic, and our company is on the brink of bankruptcy. These are the reason for that.
August 2011, the driver fell asleep behind the wheel in Arkansas and rolled it over. We didn't get the trailer back but the tandem was torn out completely as well as the ThermoKing unit. Trailer was loaded with 40,000lbs of frozen chicken, single vehicle accident. +$350,000 damage.
March 2012 (I believe), It rained/sleeted overnight and the driver was getting off i80 at 6AM and hit a concrete block at 58mph. Tractor was worth nearly $90,000, it was due for service the day the tow truck brought it in.
Bell housing cracked, motor mounts were torn out of the frame rails.
The $40,000 Cummins ISX was pushed into the cab, crushing the doghouse, and pushing back the dash. Driver woke up between the steering wheel and gearshift.
May 2012, the same guy that rolled the pretty brown truck got a brand new Kenworth W900 (still smelled brand new apart from his piss jug spilling, had 48,000 miles on it). He was on his cell phone with his ex-wife, traveling at 62mph in a 45mph construction zone, and hit a state-leased vehicle with a blinking, orange, move-the-fuck-over arrow in the back. Injured the driver in that vehicle (broken neck). To top it all off, he's suing US because we fired him.
This is after we took the hood off, the motor and trans.
Ultimately, we are taking the brown and maroon trucks and making them into one since it's the same model. The only difference is the Cat C15 and Cummins ISX wiring harness. The fun part will be moving the cab/sleeper from frame to frame.
