Question: What is the EMBA? How does this benefit me as a student?

The Executive MBA Program is designed for experienced professionals and managers who would benefit from understanding business principles they need to be successful in either growing their own business, or moving up in their company. Faculty and corporate mentors provide useful tools and a framework for people who need to craft a better business strategy as well as understand some key business tools and philosophies. This is also a great chance to network with people from other industries and hear from some really outstanding faculty and corporate executives who understand what it takes to be successful in business.

Question: So how is this program different from one of the other MBA programs?

The EMBA is one of three graduate program offering in the College of Business. The COB also offers an traditional MBA which is offered in the evenings and on Saturdays, an Online MBA offered completely online and a Master of Science in Accounting degree for those individuals who want to teach accounting or prepare to meet the qualifications for the Texas CPA Exam. The EMBA program is fast-paced and rigorous; students receive a lot of information and are able to apply it immediately in their business environment. Applicants must have at least three years of professional work experience before being considered for the program.

Question: What are the qualifications for admission?

Prospective students will need to at least have a bachelor’s degree and a few years of work experience to be considered for admission. They will need to complete an application for the program, submit three reference letters, an essay, a resume and pay an application fee. Applicants will also have to go through an interview with a member of the admissions committee. View additional information about the application and admissions requirements.

Question: So if I want to apply and I don’t have a bachelor’s degree in business does it make a difference? What about the GMAT or some standardized tests?

You do not need to have a bachelor’s degree in business! We welcome students with a variety of backgrounds: engineering, liberal arts, sciences, math, and so on. Students will receive some preparation materials for before classes begin and there is an extensive orientation session so students can get up to speed.

There is no GMAT or GRE requirement for admission to this program. Some international students may need to take the TOEFL, but there is no GMAT, GRE or thesis required for this program.

Question: How long does the program take to complete?

This is a two-year program with classes offered in the fall, spring and summer semesters with breaks in between semesters. Students move in cohorts and take two classes each semester: students spend eight weeks on one course then eight weeks on the second course. This particular format allows students to focus on one subject area at a time. The college also recognizes that professionals are pressed for time, so students spend two Saturdays each month in class with a professor and their classmates and the other two weekends they work online.

Question: When do classes start?

Classes begin in late August or early September. Orientation for the fall semester for students will be in mid-August. The College of Business is also accepting applications for the spring 2014 semester which begins in January.

Question: Where are classes held?

Classes will be held at the Prairie View A&M University Northwest Houston Campus located close to Willowbrook Mall near FM 1960 and Highway 249. The address is 9449 Grant Road.

Question: How much does the program cost?

The PVAMU EMBA is priced competitively. Each course costs roughly $3,000 and the program has 12 courses. Students should expect to pay just over $36,000 for the entire program. It is worth noting that this cost includes all course materials such as books and other required documents, lunch on class days and a trip to China as part of the study abroad component of the program. Some financial assistance may be available for tuition and fees and individuals should check with their companies to see if they would be eligible for corporate reimbursement

Question: Is this an accredited MBA program?

Prairie View A&M University College of Business is fully accredited by AACSB International, the premier accrediting agency for bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctoral degree programs in business administration.
