The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) is a public, baccalaureate, coeducational institution and a coordinate campus of the University of Minnesota.

As a four-year, public university with an enrollment of 1,800 students (approximately 1,100 on campus and 700 online), UMC proudly carries on a tradition of a century of educational service to Northwestern Minnesota. AQIP - Academic Quality Improvement Program
This program utilizes a continuous improvement process and provides an alternative process through which an already-accredited institution can maintain its accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. **Non-degree students include college in the high school students, post secondary enrollment option students, adult special students, and other general education students not officially enrolled in a degree program at UMC. Many of these students are enrolled in less than 6 credits, often taught off-campus.

High Quality Student Experience

From responses to the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) completed in fall 2008, the U of M, Crookston compares favorably to or better than designated peer institutions in several measures of quality. A few highlights include:

• 69% of freshmen and 58% of seniors characterized the quality of relationships with other students as “friendly, supportive, sense of belonging” (57% for freshmen and 62% for seniors at peer institutions).
• 52% of freshmen and 69% of seniors characterized the quality of relationships with faculty as “available, helpful, sympathetic” (51% for freshmen and 61% for seniors at peer institutions).
• 87% of freshmen and 89% of seniors characterized UMC helping them to acquire a broad general education as “quite a bit” or “very much” (82% for freshmen and 84% for seniors at peer institutions).
• 80% of freshmen and 81% of seniors characterized UMC helping them to acquire job or work-related knowledge and skills as “quite a bit” or “very much” (66% for freshmen and 75% for seniors at peer institutions).
• 88% of freshmen and 79% of seniors characterized the quality of academic advising as “good” or “excellent” (78% for freshmen and 74% for seniors at peer institutions).

Computers

UMC is internationally known as the original "Laptop University". A notebook computer is provided to every full-time student through payment of a technology access fee.

Located at the northern edge of Crookston, the campus is comprised of 37 buildings on 108 acres (237 acres including the University of Minnesota Northwest Research and Outreach Center adjacent on the east).

Housing

As of Fall Semester 2012, 613 students lived on campus in residence halls and student apartments. Others lived in off-campus housing.  In spring of 2013, UMC opened the doors to its fifth residence hall - the third to be built since 2006. Learn more at UMC Residential Life.

More than 40 student clubs and organizations plan events and activities and provide professional development and leadership opportunities.

Athletics

UMC is a member of the NCAA Division II Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).

Academic Term

UMC follows a semester-based calendar.

Academic terms include:

UMC is follows a "traditional" admissions policy.

The U of M, Crookston has restructured the tuition policy in favor of a flat-rate tuition strategy which makes all credits above 13 per semester tuition-free. Students who take advantage of the flat rate and graduate in 4 years will pay significantly less and can save nearly $20,000. To graduate in 4 years at UMC, a student, on average, must complete 15-16 credits per semester.
