| | The Antarctic Marine Geology Research Facility is the national storage facility for all sediment cores collected in the Southern Ocean by U.S. research vessels since the late 1950s. Our mission is to make samples and data available for the research community, and to preserve reference sediment. We support scientist by providing basic core descriptions, smear slide data, physical properties, x-ray and imaging and by distribute requested samples. We offer field work support for expeditions and collaborate with scientists to complete their research goals. |
| | The Antarctic and Southern Ocean Data (ASOD) Portal of the Marine Geoscience Data System provides data management services for multi-disciplinary data from oceanographic research expeditions of the R/V N. B. Palmer and R/V L. Gould and from other geoscience field programs in Antarctica. Open public access is provided for geophysical, meteorological, and water column data from over 300 expeditions conducted over two decades of operation in the Southern Ocean. We support multi-disciplinary research with mapping services and tools for analysis and visualization of a diverse suite of data types. |
| | The Polar Rock Repository (PRR) provides curatorial preservation and lending of geologic samples from polar regions along with associated materials such as field notes, maps, raw analytical data, paleomagnetic cores, thin sections, microfossil mounts, microslides and residues. Additional services include magnetic susceptibility, intensity and specific gravity measurements. The PRR acquires collections through donations from institutions and scientists and then makes these samples available as no-cost loans for research, education and museum exhibits. Rock samples searches and loan requests can be made online through the PRR website. |
| | The Polar Geospatial Center provides geospatial support, mapping, and GIS/remote sensing solutions to researchers and logistics groups in the polar science community. We collaborate with scientists to complete their research goals in a safe, timely, and efficient manner by providing a service which most groups do not have the resources or expertise to complete. Our goal is to introduce new, state-of-the-art techniques from the geospatial field to effectively solve problems in the least mapped places on Earth. |
| | The Antarctic Meteorological Research Center (AMRC) conducts observational meteorological research of the Antarctic and Southern Ocean and provides data stewardship for Antarctic meteorological data to the polar science community. The project maintains a network of approximately sixty ground-based automatic weather stations throughout the Antarctic, some in collaboration with other nations. AMRC's signature is the satellite composite imagery for both polar regions. The goal of the project is to gain an understanding of Antarctic meteorology via observations and foster stewardship of a variety of observational data sets. |
| | The U.S. Antarctic Program Data Center assists scientists in the registry and submission of their data sets for curation and long-term preservation in accordance with the NSF Office of Polar Programs Guidelines for Scientific Data. We also offer a suite of data access services (map-based and programmatic) for datasets registered within the Antarctic Master Directory to help scientists find Antarctic data of interest. The USAP Data Center serves as the U.S.'s National Antarctic Data Center (NADC) in the SCAR Standing Committee on Antarctic Data Management. |
