Geriatric & Palliative Care Center Opens

$3M in community donations builds remodeled space for interdisciplinary care

The Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) is advancing the delivery of geriatric services and palliative care in a newly expanded interdisciplinary setting, scheduled to open June 15, 2015 at its Palo Alto campus. Named the Guzik Family Center on behalf of a generous family donation, the new 2,500 foot Center was built with $3 million in charitable donations from the community.

“Every day, our geriatrics and palliative care teams deliver the very best care possible to help patients navigate their unique aging and health care journeys,” said Albert Lam, M.D., director of geriatric medicine at PAMF.  “We are deeply honored that the community has reinforced our commitment to excellence and coordinated care by generously helping to fund this new center – an investment that will give back to the community for generations to come.” Read More about Geriatric & Palliative Care Center Opens

PAMF Los Gatos Center Opens June 22

The new Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) Los Gatos Center is scheduled to open for patient care on Monday, June 22, 2015.

Services at the new 40,000-square-foot medical building, located at 15400 Los Gatos Blvd., will provide primary care – Pediatrics, Family Medicine and Internal Medicine – as well as digital imaging services, a laboratory, and an urgent care center that will be open 365 days a year. The new building includes 51 exam rooms, four treatment rooms, one anti-coagulation room, two observation rooms and one radiology room. Ample underground parking is available.

Newly Renovated PAMF Clinic in Sunnyvale Opens June 8

On Monday, June 8, 2015, the newly renovated Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) medical building at 401 Old San Francisco Road in Sunnyvale reopens for patient care. The refurbished building is located across the street from the new Sunnyvale Center, which opened in August 2013.

Demolition of the interior of the building at 401 San Francisco Road began in October 2014 and the entire renovation took eight months. The exterior of the building remains unchanged.

PAMF & SMSC Donate $750,000 to Salud Para La Gente Community Clinic

The Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) in Santa Cruz County and Sutter Maternity & Surgery Center (SMSC) of Santa Cruz, both affiliated with Sutter Health, announced a $750,000 donation to local community clinic Salud Para La Gente (Salud) in May 2015. The donation will be spread over a period of five years.

Salud provides health care services to the local community, regardless of health insurance or ability to pay. Salud’s two largest clinics in Watsonville, CA are currently operating at full capacity – including its East Beach Clinic, which serves half of all of the organization’s patients.

Salud will use the contribution to expand and renovate its East Beach Clinic in Watsonville, to accommodate additional patients and providers – increasing access to high-quality, comprehensive and cost-effective health care for low-income and underinsured and uninsured individuals. The award enables Salud to further expand its ability to provide comprehensive integrated services, including preventative, diagnostic and essential care management required for a healthy community.

PAMF & UnitedHealthcare Collaborate to Improve Patient Care in N. California

More than 63,000 UnitedHealthcare employer-sponsored health plan participants in Northern California will benefit from improved care coordination and enhanced health services

Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) and UnitedHealthcare have launched an accountable care organization (ACO) to improve how patient care is coordinated and delivered for more than 63,000 Northern California residents enrolled in UnitedHealthcare’s employer-sponsored health plans.

The ACO will help shift California’s health care system to one that rewards quality and value instead of the volume of procedures performed. Specifically, the ACO will transition PAMF from a fee-for-service compensation model to a value-based approach in which the organization is rewarded for achieving certain evidence-based measures – such as hospital readmission rates, disease management and prevention, and patient safety – as well as total cost savings.

Nutrition Myths & Healthy Dietary Advice in Clinical Practice

American Academy of Family Medicine publishes
PAMF, Stanford, Einstein College of Medicine study findings

Much of the dietary information presented as fact is actually myth, according to an article co-authored by a researchers at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation Research Institute (PAMFRI), Stanford and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. An article describing the study findings, is published in the May 1 issue of  American Family Physician, the American Academy of Family Physician’s peer-reviewed and evidence-based clinical journal for physicians and others in primary care.

The researchers studied dietary myths about vitamins and minerals (micronutrients); carbohydrates, proteins, and fats (macronutrients); dietary fibers; and how calories relate to weight loss. They found that the best diets share common features and a consistent theme: limit ultra-processed foods and eat whole or minimally processed foods – as close to what occurs in nature as possible.
