UA College of Engineering to Host Open House

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama College of Engineering will host Engineering Day, or E-Day, an open house for high-school students and their families, Thursday, Oct. 11, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
E-Day gives prospective students a closer look at the College of Engineering, and participants will receive a realistic view of how engineering skills are used in everyday life, according to Dr. Kevin Whitaker, associate dean of academic programs. All interested high-school students, counselors, teachers and parents are invited to attend.
“E-Day is a great opportunity for all students who are interested in math and science to tour the College of Engineering, find out about the various fields of engineering and computer science and consider their future career plans,” Whitaker said. “They will also be introduced to our campus and what life at The University of Alabama is like.”
Laboratory tours and exhibits will be offered in aerospace engineering and mechanics; chemical and biological engineering; civil, construction and environmental engineering; computer science; electrical and computer engineering; mechanical engineering; and metallurgical and materials engineering. Engineering students and faculty will be available to answer questions throughout the day.
Information also will be provided on college preparation, housing, scholarships, financial aid, admissions and honors programs.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s fully accredited College of Engineering has more than 3,900 students and more than 110 faculty. In the last eight years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater, Hollings, Portz and Truman scholars.
