The Library's Databases page gives an A-Z  of databases available to students and staff.  The following are of particular interest to Law students. Click on a database name for access. Unless stated, all are available both on and off-campus.

Most of these databases require Athens authentication. The passwords guide will provide more information about library passwords.

Westlaw UK


This database gives access to UK primary & secondary legislation (not including Northern Ireland Acts), a legal updater and legal news.

It has UK, European and international case law (but not Northern Ireland cases) and access to a wide range of full text legal journals.

It also includes the Legal Journals Index which indexes 800+ UK, Irish and European law journals.

Comprehensive current awareness and citator service available.

Westlaw also provides access to Commentary sources such as:
Archbold
Civil Procedure Rules (The White Book)
Woodfall, Law of Landlord and Tenant.


LexisLibrary


This database gives access to UK primary & secondary legislation (not including Northern Ireland Acts), a legal updater and legal news.

Extensive coverage of UK and European case law (including Northern Ireland and Irish cases)

Comprehensive coverage of U.S. Federal and State legislation, cases and journals.

Access to a range of full text UK and international legal journals and alerts

LexisLibrary contains a number of  important Commentary sources, such as:
Encyclopaedia of Forms and Precedents
Atkin's Court Forms
Halsbury's Laws of England
Harvey on Industrial Relations and Employment Law
Ross on Commercial Leases
Clark Hall & Morrison on Children

HeinOnline


Full text access to a large archive of full text legal journals.  HeinOnline is particularly useful for international law and also provides the Northern Ireland Legal Quarterly online up to (currently) 2004.

HeinOnline has access to the English Reports as part of its holdings and provides access to documents from the European Centre for Minority Issues.

HeinOnline provides access to a number of classic legal texts (mostly US but some prominent English works on jurisprudence and legal history)

HeinOnline contains excellent help screens, blogs and wikis to help users with all aspects of searching and retrieving material.

   


Current Legal Information

on campus only

CLI contains both the Legal Journals Index and Financial Journals Index also found in Westlaw, but in addition it has a very important index: LRDI - The Legal and Regulatory Development Index, also known as the Grey Paper Index. 

This is extremely useful as it covers material from 1994 onwards, which otherwise is difficult to locate. This includes: press releases, newspaper articles, parliamentary publications such as command papers, green and white papers, English, Welsh and Scottish SIs and Northern Irish SRs, European Commission documents and practice directions
                    


All England Cases


The All England Law Reports, the All England Reporter and a comprehensive archive of official transcripts available via the LexisLibrary service. Lexis offers a CaseSearch option on All England Reports only, which provides the judicial history of the case.
 


Halsbury's Laws  


Halsbury's Laws of England is THE legal encyclopaedia. It is available via the LexisLibrary service.


Casetrack


Definitive source of full text judgments on the Internet.
 

Other useful databases


Swetswise


This database gives access to a large and growing range of full text law journal titles, as well as tables of contents and abstracts.  There is also a subject search facility.

Full Text Business and Management database, but with some legal and social science coverage and source of online version of the Financial Times
 


Business Source Premier


Another business database, but contains full-text law journals (mostly US titles).
 


Nexis UK


Nexis UK is a major news and business database which provides access to the full text of local, national and international newspapers
