Miko Peled
Miko Peled is the son of late Israeli General Mattityahu (Matti) Peled, outspoken critic of Israeli occupation of the territories conquered in the 1967 war-- which he masterminded. Matti Peled learned Arabic and taught Arabic literature at the University of Tel Aviv.
Miko's sister, scholar Nurit Peled-Elhanan, has written about racism in Israeli schoolbooks. Miko is author of "The General's Son", about his family's transformation from Zionists to peace advocates-- about his grandparents, his father's controversial support of peacemaking, his own army experience, the tragic death of his niece (Nurit's daughter) in a suicide bombing, which moved him to become an activist for reconciliation and peace.
