My equipment

I do admit to being a bit of a gearhead.  That being said, I fully understand that it’s not the camera that takes great photos, but rather the photographer that wields it!  I started with the Canon brand because I’d done some research and believed they had the best lenses; since then I’ve fully bought into their system.

    Hi, Aaron!
I was just wondering… do you always take all the receipts of your equipment with you when traveling abroad?
I don’t have all the receipts anymore, so I’m constantly afraid they might charge for undue taxes…

Hi Amanda – No I definitely don’t travel with the receipts. Honestly it might be just good luck on my part but most of my equipment looks pretty used and I have it all packed in my bag. I’ve never even had a scare of any sort and believe me I travel with my camera and a fair amount of equipment EVERYWHERE!

    Aaron,

What kind of lenses did you use in your African safari?
I’m going to South Africa and Namibia in January.
    I have a 3ti canon DSL.

    Tks

I Renata – I used a 70-200 f4 L IS lens (my own) and also a 100-400 f4.5-5.6 L IS lens (borrowed from a friend). The latter lens was excellent – I really think you need to have at least 300mm reach when on safari, and the farther the better. If you don’t have one I think it would be worth renting one.

    Hi Aaron,
I’m beginner at photographer and I would like to have your help.
I’m doing a lot of researchers for my first professional camera and I decide that I want a Canon.
    What model you recommend?
Which one of yours you use more?
And about the lenses which one you use more?
By the way I would like to congratulate you for the new member of your family, she is really pretty! I follow the drieverywhere blog for a long time since Adriana was in Spain, I had use a lot of travels tips from her, but I never send any comments (I’m a little bit shy).
    Thank you for your time.

Hello Izabel thanks for the comment! If you get a new Canon and you’re just beginning you could get the Canon 1100D (at least that’s what it’s called in the UK). It’s not terribly expensive but will still give you enough freedom to play around. I’m currently on my third camera – my first one was very similar to the 1100D, then I upgraded to a 50D (which is now the 60D) and now I’m on the 5dMark 3. If you think you’re going to be pretty serious about learning photography you could invest more and get the 60D – that’s a really good camera for a beginner. And for lenses it always depends on what you want to photograph. One really good lens is the 18-200 zoom. The image quality is okay but the zoom is great. You could also buy the 50 mm f/1.8 lens – it’s not too expensive and takes REALLY great photos and will also teach you how to move to get better images. Let me know if there’s any tutorials that you’d like to see and I’ll try to work on them! Best of luck and thanks again for reaching out!
