Italy managed to keep the top spot in the European 2016

Italy managed to keep the top spot in the European 2016 qualification campaign after narrow back-to-back victories.

Managed Antonio Conte stated that he was not surprised with the two 1-0 victories since his team was certainly not clinical enough to make the score line much more comfortable. Still, these two victories are a huge positive for the national team that went three qualifying games without a win. Such poor form would have been disastrous to their qualification hopes, butConte was lucky enough with the fact that both Norway and Croatia failed to take advantage.

Italy have a two-point advantage with two games remaining and they will start to dream about qualification. The recent win came against Bulgaria with Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi scoring after just six minutes. However, Italy were unable to build on this goal despite having a whopping 15 attempts just in the first half. Bulgaria responded by creating numerous chances in the second half with goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon the only saviour for the home team. Conte is aware that the game could have been much more comfortable had Italy taken their chances in the first half. He has called for the players to be much more clinical in the forthcoming games against Azerbaijan and Norway.

“I don’t want to speak about individuals. I think Marco is a play on whom we can rely but he must grow.Gigi made an important save for us but he’s always a guarantee. We got six points from two games [after beating Malta 1-0 on Thursday] but I’m a little disappointed that the result remained in the balance given we dominated the game. We deserved more goals. We have to be more clinical. We created a lot but didn’t take our chances. Anyway, there was real commitment so I’m happy,” said Conte.

Brendan Rodgers will have his future decided in the next few days

This Premier League season which reached it’s end a few weeks ago was a disastrous one for Liverpool but especially for Brendan Rodgers who will now have a meeting with the chairman Tom Werner.

Liverpool was knocked out of the FA Cup after losing against Aston Villa on April 19. Brendan Rodgers also failed on pushing his team to a European spot as Liverpool had to settle with the 6th spot of the Premier League which does not grant them with any possibility of competing in either the Champions League or the Europa League.

Just by taking a look at how Liverpool finished this season, it’s pretty evident that the Premier League club was just happy to have this campaign finalized.

The last match of the season of Liverpool was played at the Britannia Stadium as Brendan Rodgers and his men faced off with Stoke City and lost 6-1.

Brendan Rodgers has a managerial contract with Liverpool that extends until 2018 and this means that the coach hailing from Northern Ireland should have his job secured until then but in the world of football certain things end sooner than initially expected. Continue reading

Liverpool got another Chance to Rekindle their Hopes

Liverpool have been given a major chance to rekindle their hopes of a top four finish after seeing Manchester City lose yet another match in the Premier League.

After having been title contenders for the most of the campaign, poor form throughout 2015 has seen Manuel Pellegrini’s team drop to the position of fourth place with six games remaining. The positive aspect for Liverpool, whose Champions League hopes appeared to be destroyed after the 4-1 defeat against Arsenal, have been rekindled after City lost against Manchester United on Sunday. Liverpool have the opportunity to narrow the seven point deficit to the fourth spot when they take on Newcastle at Anfield on Monday night.

Newcastle have little to play for and this is seen as a great opportunity for Brendan Rodgers to provide some confidence into the team. Liverpool managed to end a sequence of back-to-back defeats by getting a 1-0 win over Blackburn in the FA Cup replay to reach the semifinals of the competition. This will provide them with a huge boost going into the match against Newcastle. Despite concerns about the fitness of striker Daniel Sturridge, manager Brendan Rodgers is expected to play the England international. He has called upon Sturridge to play through the pain for the rest of the campaign. Continue reading

Brendan Rodgers didnt make Changes in Liverpool

The winter transfer window ended a few weeks ago and Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers did not make any big changes or signings in January but even though nothing really happened in the squad, Brendan Rodgers remains happy and confident about how his team has been developing which is why the manager decided not to have an active transfer window.

“With the group of players we have and obviously the market dictates it as well. I am happy with how the team and the squad is developing and between now and the end of the season we’ll look to continue with that improvement. We would want to keep all the players here.”

Mario Balotelli was one of the few players in the team of Brendan Rodgers who was being linked with a move outside of Liverpool after having endured a disastrous campaign with Liverpool as the Italian forward has only managed to score 1 Premier League goal in 13 appearances. Continue reading

Jordan Henderson confirm Squad faith on Swansea Man

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has dismissed any concerns that the squad does not have faith in Brendan Rodgers because he feels that the former Swansea man is the right person to lead the club.

Rodgers has come under heavy firing for the poor first-half to the season. Liverpool find themselves in the eighth place after 19 games, which is a far cry from the top three places that they occupied at this stage last season. Despite this poor start, the possibility of finishing with a Champions League spot at the end of the campaign still remains for the club.

Liverpool are only eight points behind Manchester United in the third placed and Henderson reckons that if the club puts together a run of matches like they did last season, they can get into the top for once again. Liverpool went on a 16 match unbeaten run at the start of 2014 to go within a point of winning the Premier League title. After having dropped only two points in the last three matches, Henderson feels that Liverpool are on the cusp of rediscovering their form. Further, they are also set to welcome Daniel Sturridge back to the team in the coming few weeks. The England international has missed much of the first half due to persistent injury troubles.

“The manager has been fantastic ever since he came to the club. He’s working really hard for us on the training field to ensure that tactically we are better and improving all the time. It’s up to us as players to ensure we put that into practice on the pitch and we definitely did that against Swansea. We got our just rewards for that. It’s been hard on everyone. We’ve gone from winning every week to not winning as often,” said Henderson.

Rodgers Has No Intention Of Changing Club’s Style

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has stated that he has no intention of changing the style of football employed at the club since he came in 2012. Liverpool have been playing a brand of football that has been very easy on the eye. The high pressing style led Liverpool to within touching distance of the Premier league title last season. However, it was also one of the reasons for their failure after they could not close games especially against Crystal Palace. The 3-3 draw showed the inept defending from Liverpool for most of the season.

Hence, there has been a suggestion that the club would adopt a pragmatic approach in the upcoming campaign in order to win more trophies – especially the Premier league. Rodgers, who has been given significant transfer funds to spend in the summer, says that there will be no alterations of the playing style despite the failure to win a major trophy in the last three years. Liverpool came close to beating Chelsea’s record of 103 goals in a single Premier league campaign. They finished the season with 101 to their name, but the record was very poor in terms of goals conceded.

Liverpool have already brought in Ricky Lambert from Southampton to add a new dimension to their football.

“What has been interesting is people talking about me moving away from some of the principles and ideas that I’ve always worked with. It couldn’t be further from the truth. As time has gone on, we’ve added penetration – it’s much better. We’re much quicker with our passing, the speed of our game is better and obviously we’ve got quality at the top end of the field. Players are now flooding forward looking to score goals, as opposed to the idea of just keeping the ball,” said the Liverpool manager.

Liverpool Proud Of A Great Season

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has stated that the club can be proud of a great campaign irrespective of what happens at Manchester City on Sunday. The club came close to winning the first Premier league title in their history. However, two matches without a win in the last two weeks have proven to be a catastrophic outcome of the club. Prior to the defeat against Chelsea at Anfield, Liverpool went into every match knowing that destiny washing their hands. The 2-0 defeat against Chelsea changed the total outcome.

They suffered a 3-3 draw against Crystal Palace on Monday night – a result that effectively ended their title hopes. Liverpool looked certain to take the title race to the last day of the season but they threw a three-goal lead in the space of nine minutes to finish the season empty-handed. City will now be able to win the title if they get at least a point against West Ham on the final day of the season. After having come so close, Rodgers was understandably a very disappointed man after the final whistle against Crystal Palace.

Ahead of the weekend’s match with Newcastle, he said that the club can be proud of their achievements this season even if they do not win the title.

“It’s certainly not over. But we can only concentrate on our job. We have to win the game. West Ham have some talented players. If you can go to Tottenham and win 3-0, you can certainly go to Manchester City and win. They’ve got the likes of Big Andy (Carroll), and they have a good defensive record, with something like 14 clean sheets this season. They are difficult to play against. The expectancy is, without disrespecting anyone, that Man City will win,” said the former Swansea manager, who is set to sign a new contract with the club.

No Anfield return for Alonso

Xabi Alonso has ended speculation that he could be set to return to Anfield by signing a new deal with Real Madrid, according to the Independent.

The 32 year old was due to be out of contract in the summer, but has now extended his contract with the La Liga giants to the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

Blog: What Happened?!

Our resident Fan Blogger Nick Sudbury lets rip on how he feels Liverpool handled the transfer window… He’s not happy!…

As a Liverpool fan this transfer window had me excited. Although just speculation, the names linked with a summer move to Anfield had me really excited. Early on in the transfer window I was expecting to see Gaston Ramirez sign, according to the media it was practically a done deal, instead he ended up joining Southampton f.c in a deal worth £12 million and on a reported £30,000 a week. The fee and wages would not exactly have bankrupted Liverpool, Ramirez could have been ours. Continue reading
