About me

I am a creative technologist, OSHW engineer, Maker and general lover of learning with a passion for digital fabrication, non-traditional education and the intersections of art and science.

I enjoy taking an anti-disciplinary approach to learning which has helped me gain a diverse skillset across several fields including digital fabrication, electronics (PCB design, fabrication, assembly, testing), shop fabrication, web development, education and more.

Recently I’ve become very interested in the mathematics and science of natural morphogenesis and how it can be applied and expressed through custom computer simulations and digital fabrication. As a result, my bookmarks and physical book collection are growing every day, covering topics such as photomicroscopy and micropaleontology, as well as raising and studying the growth patterns of coral, lichen, moss, fungi, diatoms, phytoplankton, zooplankton and more.

My interests have enabled me to do a lot of really fun projects, including:

  • Working as a Maker Corps Mentor at the Omaha Children’s Museum teaching children ages 0-8 skills ranging from soldering to building DIY musical instruments.
  • Presenting my work at Maker Faire: Kansas City and the Open Hardware Summit.
  • Developing open-source assistive technology projects such as openSip+Puff, Eyewriter 2.1 and lessons on using the MaKey MaKey for AT.
  • Collaborating with a glass artist to explore combining digital fabrication technology with hand-blown glass.
  • Making 3D-printed molds and experimenting with DIY casting media.
  • Mentoring and teaching people about Arduino, Processing, digital fabrication and more.
  • Building a successful sub-$300 aquaponics system.
