JINYA Ramen Bar – Pacific Beach, CA

Faye's Fork Leave a comment

The cold weather prompts people to seek refuge and solace. My refuge and solace happens to be ramen at the moment during the colder temperatures here in San Diego. JINYA Ramen Bar opened some time ago in Pacific Beach. The reviews seemed mostly positive so we decided to visit this modern ramen bar over the past weekend.

Hammond’s Gourmet Ice Cream – Pacific Beach, CA

Faye's Fork 3 Comments

Is there any better way to start off the new year than eating ice cream. On a beautiful sunny day in San Diego. In January for crying out loud. Hammond’s Gourmet Ice Cream has built a name for itself with their boutique shop in North Park. So I was excited to attend their soft opening at their newest location in Pacific Beach.

Blue Point Coastal Cuisine ( Yelp Event)

Faye's Fork 6 Comments

Yelp San Diego recently partnered with Blue Point Coastal Cuisine to host a “Best of Blue Point” with a course by course wine pairing. I’ve been enjoying these reservation-only yelp dinners as they give you a personal feel of the restaurants. The tasting dinner included:

– Seafood Platter
-Salad
-Appetizer
-Entrée
-Dessert
-Individual wine pairings for each course

I’ve passed by Blue Point Coastal Cuisine MANY times when I used to go clubbing downtown (do they even call it that anymore) but never really gave this restaurant much thought as it seemed fancy and a bit stuffy. So this Yelp dinner was a great way to get us acquainted with this 20+ year old Cohen Restaurant that seemed alive and well in downtown San Diego.

Wonderland Ocean Pub

Faye's Fork 8 Comments

I’m used to getting my ocean views when I visit La Jolla or Del Mar. But those views are kinda pricey when you’re enjoying them from a restaurant in those cities. I don’t visit Ocean Beach as often but was curious about Wonderland Ocean Pub as I heard their 2nd floor views of the ocean were spectacular. Friend had a surprise birthday here some time ago and we all had a great time at Wonderland. So I recently revisited over the weekend to try them out again.

Potato Shack Cafe

Faye's Fork 4 Comments

Potato Shack Cafe is a family owned breakfast and lunch restaurant in Encinitas. I don’t know about ya all’s preference but sometimes a girl’s gotta have her chicken fried steak in the morning. We are always on the quest to search for the perfect chicken fried steak in San Diego so we thought we’d venture to Encinitas one Saturday to check out their breakfast options.

Orient Valley Filipino Cuisine

Faye's Fork 6 Comments

This was one of those after church meals when I had no idea what I wanted to eat. I didn’t even know about Orient Valley Filipino Cuisine. How long have they been in Rancho Penasquitos. I’ve visited the Armstrong Nursery nearby as well as the Stater Brothers but have never seen this Filipino restaurant before. My knowledge of Filipino food isn’t very strong so I thought Orient Valley Filipino Cuisine would be a fun place to visit and explore what they had to offer on a weekend. This take out meal was some months ago so forgive the mostly pictures, over diction, post.

Mazen@106 – Carlsbad, CA

Faye's Fork 3 Comments

I hate over due posts. I have a bunch in the blogging pipeline though. Mazen@106 hosted a media event some months ago and showcased a variety of items from their revamped menu. According to their website, they feature “the very best of Southern Europe and Middle Eastern cuisine, we add a Californian twist that will awaken your taste buds and delight your palette. Our mouthwatering menu features fresh, local ingredients to bring you a wonderful mix of meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes from the kitchen and the grill.” They’re located in the heart of Carlsbad Village-by-the-Sea which is a part of town that I want to frequent more often.

Baklava King

Faye's Fork 5 Comments

I can’t be friends with you unless you have a muffin top. There. I said it. I mean that in the sincerest way as this season has been ALL about not working out and ALL about eating. Kidding aside (kinda), I’ve been letting myself enjoy a few carb dessert items here and there this season. I learned about Baklava King some months ago at an event at Mazen@106 ( that post is way over due but is in the works) in Carlsbad. They served the best baklava I had ever tried up to that point and told me they worked with Baklava King for this incredible pastry dessert. So recently, as I was looking at my way too overfloweth tummy, I figured I’d drive to Baklava King in Santee to visit their kitchen and buy a few items.
