REN21 Webinars
REN21 and the NREL Clean Energy Solutions Center are pleased to announce a series of webinars based on REN21’s newly released Renewables 2015 Global Status Report. Join us to find out what made 2014 another record year for renewables. Learn about how increased additions of solar PV and wind in the electricity sector have driven other energy sectors and how 2014 marks where, for the first time, we managed to decouple CO2 emissions from economic growth. Each webinar will begin with an overview of REN21’s newly released Renewables 2015 Global Status Report and will then look at a specific area within the renewable energy sphere. Sign up and join us as we explore the world of renewables around the globe!
Transport
This webinar will begin with an overview of REN21’s newly released Renewables 2015 Global Status Report and will then look at the transport sector. The main trends in sustainable transport will be presented and the difference between industrial and developing country transport and its effect on renewable energy use will be discussed. For further information visit the CESC webinar page.
Distributed Renewable Energy – spotlight on sub-Saharan Africa
As REN21’s 2015 report shows, with a total installed capacity of roughly 147 GW, all of Africa has less power generation capacity than Germany. Access to clean cooking continues to fall behind population leading to negligible progress overall and a regression in some regions. We will discuss the current status of distributed renewables in the region and what can be done to increase uptake. For further information visit the CESC webinar page.
Energy Efficiency and Demand-side Management – spotlight on North America and Europe
Energy efficiency and demand-side management are key for meeting the SE4ALL objectives as well as achieving 100% renewables. In 2014 North America and Europe experienced a 1.7% drop and a 1.5% drop in energy intensity respectively, demonstrating the untapped energy efficiency potential. Hear about new developments to improve energy efficiency in the sector as well as the challenges the sector faces. For further information visit the CESC webinar page. Audio and transcript of the webinar are now available.
Renewable Energy Integration
This webinar will begin with an overview of REN21’s newly released Renewables 2015 Global Status Report and will then look at the status of integrating increased shares of renewables—specifically in Europe and America. With the estimated renewable energy share of global electricity production standing at 22.8%, utilities are grappling with how best to bring large amounts of renewable energy online. Hear about what has happened to date and where future challenges and opportunities might be. For further information visit the CESC webinar page.
