“A Hex, With Bees” Wins Best English Poem/Song in Aurora Awards

My poem “A Hex, With Bees” won the 2015 Aurora Award in the Best English Poem/Song category! Many thanks to the editors and publisher of Wrestling With Gods: Tesseracts 18 (Jerome Stueart and Liana Kerzner, and Brian Hades at EDGE).

I didn’t win in the Short Fiction category but my good friend Eric Choi did. Congratulations Eric, and to Julie Czerneda for the Best Novel win, and everyone else who won.

(That’s my ankle in a cast next to the trophy – I guess I took ‘break a leg’ too literally.)

Story sale: The Sweetest Skill

I’ve sold a short story, “The Sweetest Skill”, to Beneath Ceaseless Skies. It will likely appear in April 2016 with an electronic and audio version.

This story follows “A Sweet Calling” and “No Sweeter Art” (both of which also have audio versions).

Also, “The Curse of Chimère” will be translated and reprinted in a Belgian steampunk anthology.

“No Sweeter Art” a Finalist in Parsec Awards

I just found out the audio version of my Aurora-nominated story, “No Sweeter Art” (Beneath Ceaseless Skies) appears to be a finalist for the 2015 Parsec Awards in the category of BEST SPECULATIVE FICTION STORY: SMALL CAST (SHORT FORM). The Parsec Awards celebrate the best of speculative fiction podcasting.

Apparently there were some late-discovered scoring and eligibility issues that required an updated list of finalists in my category, and as a result I am now a Parsec finalist. Here’s the new list.

Best Speculative Fiction Story: Small Cast (Short Form)
Short stories containing elements of science fiction, fantasy or horror where the storytelling uses narration as its primary means to convey scene and action and uses fewer than three people for the story presentation.

Finalists:
“A Story to Scare My Son” by R.D. Ovenfriend, The NoSleep Podcast
“O’Malley’s Media Storm” by V.C. Morrison, Seminar
SKALD by Aubrey Sitterson
“The Mummer Man” by Stan Studdens; Peter Joseph Lewis, narrator, The NoSleep Podcast
“No Sweeter Art” by Tony Pi, Beneath Ceaseless Skies

(The updated list of finalists for the Parsec Awards is here: www.parsecawards.com/2…/2015-parsec-awards-finalists/ )

I believe the Parsec Awards will be announced September 5 at DragonCon.

Many thanks to the editor of Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Scott H. Andrews, and the narrator John Meagher. If you’d like to listen to the podcast, it’s available at: www.beneath-ceaseless-skies.com/audio/bcs-133-no-sweeter-art/
