Argonne's Energy Sciences Building Under Construction

On May 17, 2012, DOE, Argonne and Clark Construction personnel gathered to celebrate "topping out" the Energy Sciences Building (ESB). Topping out a building is a tradition, originating from Eastern Europe, involving placing the final structural beam at the highest point of the building. In many cases the last beam to be hoisted is painted white and signed by all the workmen involved.

In addition to the customary beam signing and placement the ESB topping out ceremony involved lunch and talks from Drew Martin, Project Manager from Clark, Dave Trolian, Vice President from Clark, Jeff Sims, Program Manager from Argonne, and Dr. Eric Isaacs Laboratory Director from Argonne. Dr. Isaacs discussed with the trades people and project team the importance of the research that will take place within the ESB. Drew, Dave, Jeff and Eric took the opportunity to thank the workers for their outstanding commitment to quality and safety in their respective trades.

The ESB is on schedule for occupancy in Summer 2013.
