spacer Stephan Rosenkranz is elected president of the Neutron Scattering Society of America (NSSA).

Stephan Rosenkranz (MSD) was recently elected president of the Neutron Scattering Society of America (NSSA). As president, he will advocate neutron scattering research in North America while stimulating and broadening the use of neutron scattering in science and technology. His passion in development of novel neutron and X-ray scattering instrumentation and data analysis tools makes him the appropriate choice as president.

Rosenkranz's research has focused on the structure and dynamics of strongly correlated systems, in particular the role of phase competition in generating complex phenomena. He is particularly interested in the investigation of long-range order and associated excitations and short-range correlations and fluctuations induced by the presence of competing interactions with incompatible order.

His research has taken him from Switzerland, where he performed research at the Paul Scherrer Institut and ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) Zurich, to the United States as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Illinois at Chicago and to Argonne where he is a physicist and leader of the neutron and X-ray scattering group in the Materials Science Division.

The Neutron Scattering Society of America is open to anyone with an interest in neutron scattering research in a wide spectrum of disciplines. Pursuant to its purpose, the NSSA identifies and brings together the neutron scattering community, identifies the needs of the community, including future instrumentation and sources, and represents these needs to the neutron facilities and funding agencies. The NSSA carries out educational activities in support of these goals and organizes the biannual American Conference on Neutron Scattering.
