Tally Offers Multilingual Support With Tally 8.1

Business accounting software provider Tally (India) has launched the latest version of its small enterprise product, Tally Financial Accounting and Inventory Management software, in Bangalore.

TallySilver 8.1 and TallyGold 8.1 now support entry of data in all unidirectional languages and scripts, concurrently. Users can interact with the software through all commonly performed functions by choosing from the built-in vernacular interfaces. Interfaces in additional local languages are being added to the software progressively.

Speaking on the occasion, Bharat Goenka, managing director, Tally (India), said, “With Tally 8.1, we have made a sincere and humble effort to address a fundamental challenge - help businessmen talk to each other and their customers in their preferred language. Our recent research reveals that this facility finds acceptance at two levels - first, the software can now generate bills, invoices and other documentation in regional languages, ensuring maximum readability among the recipients of the same. Secondly, the very ability of a business owner to interface with this rich source of information in his own language generates an indirect emotional connection that is as valuable as the direct utilitarian benefit accrued to the business.”

TallySilver/Gold 8.1 incorporate multiple language support at different levels. First, it allows the user to enter and display
information in any unidirectional scripts. Available through 10 user interfaces in major Indian languages - Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati, Oriya, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam - TallySilver/Gold 8.1 help the user to interact with the software using menu options that have already been translated into regional languages.

Users can enter data through phonetic keyboards also. A typical usage of the phonetic keyboard will be to spell the term in English and the software will display it, after transliteration, in the language selected. For instance, on typing the characters “KAR”, the software can render the word in Hindi using the Devanagari script.

Bharath Gopalakrishnan,CEO-South Asia Business, Tally (India), commented, “The SO/SB solutions group has strong reasons to believe that this latest product offering will find maximum acceptability among audiences based in both metros and non-metros, typically with less than 25 lakh to 30 lakh population. We also expect that due to the nature of this offering, it will aid in increased proliferation of personal computers for business purposes among the SO/SB segment, a group that is traditionally recognized to be vernacular-friendly.

“Along with the fundamental multilingual capabilities, TallySilver/Gold 8.1 also builds on the high standards set by Tally 7.2 in providing VAT support to India, by incorporating filing formats for VAT composition returns. Support for FBT and Excise computation for traders make up the rearguards for TallySilver/Gold 8.1. Overall, this is one of the most exciting releases of Tally in the recent past and we’re confident of meeting market success that is yet to be matched in the history of the corporation.”
