Polar Science is at the forefront of research into the large and rapid environmental changes currently taking place worldwide. Scientists who understand the complex scientific and societal impacts of polar changes have the unique opportunity to affect environmental policies worldwide. The Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) is the National Science Foundation's flagship interdisciplinary program for educating US PhD scientists and engineers by building on the foundations of their disciplinary knowledge with interdisciplinary training.
Although the Polar Environmental Change IGERT is no longer accepting applications, Dartmouth continues to support the interdisciplinary study of polar science, engineering, and policy issues. Graduate programs in Earth Sciences, Engineering Sciences, or Ecology and Evolutionary Biology provide a framework for studying polar changes.
