Join the familia:
Volunteer for Single Events
We host events for families and community members quarterly. Volunteers are critical in helping us spread the word, phone bank, organize materials, food preparation/serving, organizing games/activities, shuttle participants to/from BART, set-up and clean-up, and much more. Volunteers are asked to give 1-2 hours of their time.
Help us at one of our events such as our annual Día de la Familia, LGBTQ events such as Pride and Amor Sin Fronteras, and cultural events such as Día de los Muertos. It will be fun and you will meet great people!
Join a Committee
We have five active committees that manage key pieces of our work. Committee members contribute about 5 hours of their time each month.
- Fundraising Committee
Learn more about how organizations run by helping us research funding opportunities, put together letters of intent and proposals, and grassroots fundraising.
- Communications Committee
Put your creativity to work through social media and other external communications.
- Community Education Committee
Grow acceptance in your community. Help us create educational materials, coordinate educational presentations, and work with other organizations.
- Events and Activities Committee
Meet new people and grow your event planning skills. Work in a team to organize Día de la Familia, support group meetings, and community events. - Speakers’ Bureau
Learn to share your story with community members and receive training on how to conduct workshops.
Become a “Volunteer-at-Large”
This volunteer role is for folks that want to participate on an ongoing basis with Somos Familia but do not wish to be assigned to a specific committee or event. As a volunteer-at-large, you will be given the opportunity to assist us in delivering services, fundraising, or acting as an ambassador on behalf of our services to the community at-large.
As a volunteer, you will be invited to our volunteer nights out and social gatherings (movies, museums, and happy hour socials).
