What are community gardens?
Simply stated, a community garden is any piece of land gardened by a group of people. To many people though, they are much more than that! Community gardens create strong healthy communities by increasing community involvement and interaction between neighbors, providing fresh fruits and vegetables and increasing opportunities for physical activity. Gardens can save people money, they increase green space in urban areas, they serve as wonderful hands-on educational centers, and so much more.
North Carolina Community Garden Partners (NCCGP) is a nonprofit membership organization made of partners across the state interested in โgrowingโ community gardens. Visit our list of partner organizations and gardens on the NC Garden Directory.
Our vision is to increase the quantity, quality and sustainability of community gardens in North Carolina.
Our mission is to 1) expand community gardening efforts throughout the state 2) increase community food security and improve access to healthy food and 3) strengthen community involvement and build community capacity by promoting community gardens, connecting partners, providing education and sharing resources across the state.
