Difference between cuprokalininite and florensovite

I can't find any difference between cuprokalininite, Cu(Cr1.5V0.5)S4, and florensovite, Cu(Cr1.5Sb0.5)S4, despite of the substution of Cr by V or Sb. Both species belong to thiospinel group and both crystallize in the Fd3m space group...

Regards!

Luke K.

Hi Luke,
"cuprokalinite" is not a valid species recognized by IMA CNMNC.
Ciao. Marco

Hi,

according to the IMA list I downloaded (says updated in November 2012) cuprokalininite is accepted (2010-008 CuCr2S4) and florensovite is also accepted (1987-012 CuCr1.5Sb0.5S4). I assume the positions of the Sb must be specific and distinguish the two species then.

However, Marco really knows about IMA status so there might be something I am not interpreting correctly from the list.

Frank

According to the author of both minerals (Leonid Reznitski) the main difference is in valency of Cr. Florensovite has only trivalent Cr with CuCr3+1.5Sb0.5S4 while cuprokalininite - both 3+ and 4+ with CuCr3+Cr4+S4. That leads to a difference in physical properties (cuprokalininite is ferromagnetic while florensovite is antiferromagnetic). There are also some minor differences in optical properties, plus the morphology of crystals/grains is absolutely different.

Sorry Frank and Luke, I confused with kalinite (Cu-rich kalinite), instead of cuprokalininite.
Cuprokalininite is a valid species. See the replay of Anatoly for the differences.
