The prospect for Codekana / VS2010
September 11th, 2010“When will Codekana for VS2010 be ready?” We get this question quite often, so I thought I’d post up a notice up here prominently.
We have actually started work in Codekana for VS2010. The main point is that, VS2010 has a completely new text editor, and this means we had to rewrite a large part of Codekana from scratch (as we had to do for ViEmu, which is already released). This is a lot of work, but also, since the new editor is so much more powerful, we decided to take full advantage of it.
We decided to go back to the drawing board, and design a completely new Codekana. This new tool will be much more powerful and flexible than the previous one: very user-configurable, and working with many languages, rather than just C/C++/C# and the like.
It will also make use of all new capabilities of VS2010: varying text sizes, graphics, bitmaps and controls embedded in the text, etc…
We expect we will be able to have a first release by the end of 2010 or so. Please watch this blog and my Twitter stream (@jonbho) for beta and release announcements.
