DRUMMER Magazine: Still Beating Strong In Century Twenty-One
A fantastic new exhibition celebrating the 24 years (1977 – 1999) of DRUMMER Magazine opens tonight at the Antebellum Gallery in Hollywood. Titled “THE ART OF DRUMMER: new outlines of masculinity” the exhibition presents classic cover work and images from the gay BDSM magazine that set standards and precedents for what the exhibition calls “homomasculine representation” in all kinds of queer publications that can be seen in many of today’s print and online publications. Even this one.
DRUMMER routinely featured the work of Tom Of Finland, Robert Mapplethorpe, Bill Ward, Etienne, and numerous others. Original works from over 20 of the artists presented in DRUMMER over the quarter century it ran feature in the exhibition, which opens tonight, March 19, and runs through April 12.
The opening night reception begins at 7pm and features live performances from Tramp For The Lord, Keith Hunter and DJ Manuelito. Rick Castro, one of the few surviving contributors to DRUMMER, will be in attendance and admission is $10.
Also, NYC artist Granite will exhibit new work depicting fetish art for the 21st century through the length of the exhibition.

These were some hot times, as well as the men on the covers.
