If the victim is choking on popcorn: stand behind the victim and wrap your arms around his waist. Place your fist with the thumb side against the victim's abdomen slightly above the navel and below the rib cage. Grasp your fist with your other hand and pull it into the victim's abdomen with a quick upward thrust. Repeat the movement several times if necessary.

spacer Interstellar is an ambitious movie that explores the possibilities of travelling through wormholes and different time dimensions to new planets. With such complex subject matter, it was always going to be a struggle making it accessible and understandable, and often Interstellar is let down by its storytelling. However, the visuals never fails to impress and the fabulous special effects may make you forgive the film’s narrative flaws.

Spectre (2015) – Satellite Selfies & Annoying Promos Aside, Spectre Works

spacer Currently the second-highest-grossing film in the Bond franchise, Spectre has successfully revived the beloved action-packed entertainment of the Roger Moore era. The terrifically exciting, spectacular, adventure-endorsing spy series is one difficult to uphold through the decades – though the booming success of Skyfall (2012) has put Spectre in a difficult returning position, Sam Mendes returns yet again in an attempt to pick up the death-defying story right where he left off.

spacer Lobster is a social satire set in a dystopian future where single people are turned into an animal of their choice if they cannot find a suitable partner within 45 days. It comprises great performances from a talented cast and is a touching take on society’s obsession with coupledom and singledom.

Room (2015)

spacer Take a disturbing true life story, creatively spin elements of those events and write a best-selling novel, adapt that novel for the big screen, and you’ll hopefully get a movie as skillfully crafted as Room. The 2015 film has become a hit on the film festival circuit, and it’s easy to see why. It manages to take a very unsettling subject, completely avoid the sensationalism attached to the true crime story from which it is derived, and give the audience a poignant look at what happens when people are forced to find the best within themselves after being dragged through the absolute worst.

Ex Machina (2015)

spacer It is in a world of rapidly advancing technology, one that reshapes itself dramatically every few years, that a film like Ex Machina is best dropped into. The questions that it wrestles with, including the nature of humanity and the line between technology and sentience, help to make better sense of the sorts of fears we might have as the current AI landscape becomes more and more like Ava from the film.

spacer In July 2011, the music world lost one of their most talented artists — soul singer Amy Winehouse, who was only 27 years old and already a already a five time Grammy award winner. Winehouse took the London music scene by storm in the mid-2000’s with her low, powerhouse vocals and signature blues-tinged sound, her neo-soul style resonating in her debut album Frank and subsequent award-winning album Back to Black.

Dark Places (2015)

spacer Following the massive success of Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl adaptation, high expectations were set for this summers release of Dark Places. Coming to us from director Gilles Paquet-Brenner, there’s no denying that the second feature length adaptation of one of Flynn’s books was a relative disappointment. Although the movie features renowned actors and actresses and had all the raw ingredients to make a hit, the film still failed to generate any sort of reception even comparable to its predecessor.

spacer Alan Turing played an important role in breaking the Nazi Enigma code and enabling Great Britain to win the war. His war efforts went largely unattributed though for many years and he was only known as a successful professor who committed suicide following an arrest for homosexuality and a subsequent chemical castration. It was only when war documents were unclassified many years later that Turing’s code breaking achievements were revealed and his remarkable story came to light, enabling The Imitation Game movie to be made.

spacer Warning: this review contains some mild spoilers!

James Cameron’s 1984 classic The Terminator spawned a wildly successful and hugely influential franchise that spanned comics, novels, video games, television and 5 feature films. While the movie series has seen a dip in quality since 1991’s landmark T2: Judgement Day, the latest installment takes the story in an intriguing new direction, and features the return of screen icon Arnold Schwarzenegger.
