Author Visits

Interested in an Author Visit?

spacer Nancy Bo Flood can come to your classroom, library, or writing workshop!  Visit packages vary in length and are a fun, innovative, and affordable way to learn about Navajo or Pacific cultures, creative writing, or the desert landscape.  See the full menu of topics listed below. Type, length and costs vary from a simple 1 or 2 hour “meet the author” to a full day or even full week of writing workshops.  Costs also vary and are negotiable. Factors considered are number of author events and numbers of books purchased. For more detailed information on event topics and costs, please contact Nancy.

Workshop Topics:

1. Life as an author – what is it like?

Students will meet with the author in an informal seminar format talking about the writing process, how one “gets published,” and “stories behind her books.”  A writing workshop can be part of this event.

2. A look at the Southwest: Desert landscape-the people and the place

This workshop asks the question: “If you were a Navajo student, growing up on the Navajo Reservation, what would it be like?”  Students are exposed to the culture and climate of the Navajo people,  the realities of growing up where culture includes both the traditional and contemporary, from basketball games to rodeos.

3. A closer look at Sand to Stone

Students learn about bluffs, buttes and mountains, as they explore the Grand Canyon, hoo-doos and monuments. Hands-on activities include creating sand and rock formations as well as performance poetry.

4. Storytelling Around the World

Puppets, carvings, tattoos, and many other ways to “talk story.”  We all enjoy a good story.  Visuals and readings engage students as they participate in unusual ways to story-tell.

5. Performance Poetry, Poetry or Writing Workshops

Examples, humor and group participation take the fear out of  creating verse.  These workshops focus on elements of writing selected by teachers or students.
