ES&H Fairs

The ES&H Section hosts two lab-wide fairs each year, one in the Spring and one during the Fall/Winter season. These fairs are part of our mission to bring awareness to all the elements of our program; environment, safety and health. We invite and encourage other safety groups, clubs and outside organizations to particpate (e.g. Fermi Natural Areas, Roads and Grounds, WDRS, and Friends of the Fox).

The spring fair is held on Earth Day or the week of, if it falls on a weekend. This fair concentrates on the spring activities and the safety hazards associated with the season. We cover topics such as mosquito and other insect bites, accidents that can occur while doing yard work and other typical spring and summer activities. We have table displays and information on pertinent risks such as ticks and West Nile.

The winter fair brings to the forefront many risks associated with winter and cold weather. We try to make the fair not only informational but also fun for folks to attend. Participants enjoy the displays and information along with the free items we hand out. We encourage everyone to visit many of the displays and enter to win raffle prizes. We often give away pens or pencils with reminders to TAKE 5 before beginning a new task or activity, or other items that help prevent illness such as hand sanitizer gel.

If you would like to have a display table at the fair, we welcome volunteers! Also, if you have any suggestions or topics you would like to see covered, please contact ES&H Admin at Ext. 5811 or send e-mail to esh_admin@fnal.gov.
