2016 National Western Catch A Calf
National Western Stock Show time is fast approaching, and with that, it is time to start
thinking about applying for the Catch-A Calf program sponsored by the National Western
Stock Show. The National Western Stock Show Catch-A-Calf Program is a great program
designed to promote youth development and understanding of the cattle feeding industry.
This program can provide youth with an opportunity to be part of one of the best programs at
the National Western Stock Show. Youth are encouraged to manage their projects from the
mindset of commercial cattle feeding.
Applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 18 as of December 31, 2015 to apply, and
also enrolled in 4-H at the time of application. Successful catchers must have adequate
facilities available to house their steer as they are responsible for the care, feeding and
handling of their animal.
It is critical that you have adequate facilities for a steer project. If you catch, you will be
getting a calf that is NOT halter broke. If you are not currently in a cattle project then I MUST
make a visit to the premises where you will be housing the steer prior to December 1 or I will
NOT sign the application form.
Applications are due to Erin VanPeer (Adams County CSU Extension) postmarked no later
than December 1, 2015. Additionally, applications will be posted on the National Western
Stock Show Catch-A Calf website at: nationalwestern.com/livestock-shows/catch-acalf-
contest/ or contact the Fremont County Extension Office for an application.
Please read the rules and regulations carefully BEFORE you apply for the NWSS Catch-A-Calf
program.

Thank You, Soup Makers & Ticket Sellers!
Thanks to everyone who supported our 4-H Craft Sale. Once again, it was a great success! Lots of work, but worth it in the long run! Thanks to the people who sold soup tickets, worked during the sale & came to buy things! Special thanks to the people who donated their wonderful homemade soups: Tami Ratkovich, Lorri Goebel, Joe & Cathy Solano, Marsha Bouchard, Nita Gowdy, Kathy Kunselman, Sue Gowdy, Jody McKean, Dawn Loveless, (Apologies if we missed anyone.) Do you know, this fundraiser raised more than $3800 for our 4-H clubs and Council? If you were there you saw the hard work it took to accomplish it all. Thanks to everyone who helped make our Christmas Craft Sale successful!
