About the Speaker: Linda A. Curran, BCPC, LPC, CACD, CCDPD, EMDR Level II Trained, is president of Integrative Trauma Treatment, LLC in Havertown, PA. Currently she provides clients an integrative approach to trauma, and treats PTSD in adolescent and adult populations, including clients with eating disorders, sexual trauma, and self-injury. Peter A. Levine, Ph.D., holds doctorates in both medical biophysics and psychology. The developer of Somatic Experiencing®, a body-awareness approach to healing trauma, and founder of the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute, which conducts trainings in this work throughout the world and in various indigenous cultures, with 26 faculty members and over five thousand students. Dr. Levine was a stress consultant for NASA on the development of the space shuttle project and was a member of the Institute of World Affairs Task Force of Psychologists for Social Responsibility in developing responses to large-scale disasters and ethno-political warfare. Levine’s international best seller, Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma, has been translated into 22 languages. His recent interests include the prevention of trauma in children, and he has co-written two books, with Maggie Kline, in this area: Trauma Through a Child’s Eyes and Trauma-Proofing Your Kids. His most recent book: In an Unspoken Voice: How the Body Releases Trauma and Restores Goodness, was recently released to rave reviews. Levine’s original contribution to the field of Body-Psychotherapy was honored in 2010 when he received the Life Time Achievement award from the United States Association for Body Psychotherapy (USABP). Jamie Marich, Ph.D., LPCC-S, LICDC, is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC-S) and Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC) in the state of Ohio, specializing in addiction treatment (chemical & behavioral), PTSD, issues related to abuse and trauma, dissociative disorders, and grief. Jamie is a certified EMDR Therapist and approved consultant through the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). Her research efforts were awarded by EMDRIA in 2008. She is also a member of the American Academy of Trauma Experts in Traumatic Stress, the International Association of Trauma Professionals (IATP), the Ohio Counseling Association, and the National Association of Addiction Professionals. She is a Certified Rational Living Hypnotherapist, and has earned Certification in Disaster Thanatology through the TEAR Center in Maryland. She began her career in social services as a humanitarian aid worker in post-war Bosnia-Herzegovina, which opened her eyes to the widespread, horrific impact of traumatic stress and grief. Dr. Marich has several articles published in peer-reviewed and online journals about the clinical applications of EMDR, and in 2011, her first book, EMDR Made Simple: 4 Approaches for Using EMDR with Every Client (Premier Publishing & Media, 2011), was published. In 2012, Jamie’s second book, Trauma and the Twelve Steps: A Complete Guide to Enhancing Recovery was published, and its companion website, TraumaTwelve.com, has become a popular stop of trauma and addiction resources. Her newest book, Trauma Made Simple: Competencies in Assessment, Treatment, and Working with Survivors (Premier Publishing & Media, 2014) continues her commitment to writing for clinicians. Jamie has been a leader in mental health residential treatment, and in chemical dependency treatment as an inpatient, outpatient, and dual diagnosis counselor. Jamie maintains a private practice called Mindful Ohio and has worked as an adjunct professor for several online universities. Jamie offers retreats on trauma recovery and mindfulness topics, and she has been invited to give them at nationally-renowned facilities including the Kripalu School of Yoga & Health and the Esalen Institute. Stephen Porges, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina. He is Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he directed the Brain-Body Center, and at the University of Maryland, where he chaired the Department of Human Development and directed the Institute for Child Study. He served as president of the Society for Psychophysiological Research and the Federation of Behavioral, Psychological, and Cognitive Sciences. He has published more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers across several disciplines including pediatrics, psychiatry, psychology, space medicine, and substance abuse. In 1994 he proposed the Polyvagal Theory, a theory that links the evolution of the mammalian autonomic nervous system to social behavior and emphasizes the importance of physiological state in the expression of psychiatric disorders. He is the author of The Polyvagal Theory: Neurophysiological Foundations of Emotions, Attachment, Communication, and Self-regulation (Norton, 2011). Bessel A. van der Kolk, M.D., is a clinical psychiatrist who has studied the impact and resolution of trauma on human beings for the past 40 years. His research has ranged from developmental impact of trauma to neuroimaging and from memory processes to the use of EMDR and theater groups in PTSD. He is professor of psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine and medical director of the Trauma Center in Boston, where he also serves as director of the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress Complex Trauma Network. He is past president of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. He has taught at universities and hospitals throughout the world. He is author of over a hundred scientific articles, author of Psychological Trauma and co-editor of Traumatic Stress. Dr. Laurel Parnell is one of the world’s experts on EMDR. A clinical psychologist, she has trained thousands in EMDR in her international workshops. Dr. Parnell is the author of A Therapist’s Guide to EMDR, EMDR in the Treatment of Adults Abused as Children, Transforming Trauma: EMDR, and Tapping In: A Step-by-Step Guide to Activating Your Healing Resource Through Bilateral Stimulation as well as articles and a chapter in the EMDR Casebook. Dr. Parnell is at work on her newest book: Attachment-Focused EMDR: Healing Relational Trauma, which will be published by WW Norton in 2013. Dr. Parnell has served on the faculty of the California Institute for Integral Studies and John F. Kennedy University. An EMDR pioneer and innovator, Dr. Parnell has immersed herself in the practice and development of EMDR since 1991 bringing a client-centered attachment-focused approach to the work. Babette Rothschild, MSW, LCSW, has been a psychotherapist since 1976 and a teacher and trainer since 1992. Robert Scaer received his B.A. in Psychology, and his M.D. degree at the University of Rochester.
