About

spacer Founded in 2004, Dogwoof is the UK’s leading documentary distributor. To date, we have released a huge range of award-winning and highly popular films including The Age of Stupid, Food, Inc., Restrepo, Dreams of a Life, The House I Live In, Dior and I, The Spirit of ’45, and Blackfish. Our films have won numerous awards, most recently a BAFTA win for Best Documentary for Joshua Oppenheimer’s extraordinary, ground-breaking The Act of Killing. We will release the companion piece The Look of Silence in 2015.

There’s no secret to our success - we thrive because of our independent spirit and because we are proud to walk to a different beat. Right from the outset, we aim to work in close collaboration with each of our filmmakers throughout the release process, as well as building audiences and profile to create the best unique release for each film.

In 2011, Dogwoof branched out into international sales with Dogwoof Global, a sales consultancy arm that helps filmmakers promote and sell their films globally via our network of fellow international distributors and broadcasters, building on a guaranteed UK distribution deal. Films we’ve represented thus far include Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present, Errol Morris’s Tabloid, Sarah Gavron’s The Village at the End of the World, and Sundance Festival favourite Blackfish. Additionally, we have started to work with filmmakers in production - most recently a new project from Bombay Beach director Alma Ha'rel titled LoveTrue and executive produced by Shia LaBeouf.

We know that no company is an island - no matter how independent - so we work hard to establish and maintain partnerships. These include a wide array of organisations, from leading NGOs such as Amnesty International and Greenpeace to companies such as The Co-operative. And thinking beyond the traditional constraints of cinema distribution, we show our films everywhere, from venues such as the Tate Modern and advertising agencies to festivals like Sheffield Doc/Fest and Glastonbury.

Constantly working on building on the successes of the last ten years, we’re always on the lookout for new technologies and new partnerships with like-minded, innovative companies. Our aim is to evolve with the changing film market and provide consumers with not only the films they want, but also the platforms they want to view them on. We have our own VOD platform Dogwoof TV and also run the highly successful Popup Cinema which allows individuals to corporates to host their own screenings of our films.

Our speciality is documentaries, and we are committed to finding and distributing the best the UK and the world has to offer. These might be about individuals, communities, causes, historic events, or just beautiful pieces of art, but they are all curated by us with the utmost care.
