June Sarpong

spacer June Sarpong is a broadcaster and campaigner. After a career as an MTV UK & Ireland presenter, June has been involved with many charities, including the Lunchbox Fund, The Prince’s Trust and Make Poverty History, as well as co-founding the WIE Network (Women: Inspiration & Enterprise). Her latest venture is LDNY, an ethical fashion social enterprise with backing from the UN, Parsons New York School for Design and the London College of Fashion. June was awarded an MBE in 2007 for services to broadcasting and charity.

 

Mr Karl-Johan Perssonspacer

Karl-Johan Persson is the CEO and president of the fashion company H&M, which with over 90,000 employees, is one of the largest fashion companies in the world. He is a long standing patron of MyBnk. Before joining H&M, Karl-Johan Persson developed together with a friend his own successful company in London, European Networks, which he sold in 2007. He has a true entrepreneurial spirit and has been associated with MyBnk’s
financial education and enterprise mission since its inception in 2006.

Sir Roger Gifford

Roger is SEB UK Cospacer untry Head and the former Lord Mayor of London.

Previously he headed the bank’s operations in Tokyo 1994 – 2000 and was Chairman of the Association of Foreign Banks 2007 – 2011.

He is also a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians (Master 2010-11) and trustee of the Bank Workers Charity.

Roger is interested in promoting the creative industries as the UK’s most important sector after financial services. Trustee of St Paul’s Cathedral Foundation, St Paul’s Cathedral Choir School Foundation and King Edward’s School Witley; chairman of the English Chamber Orchestra & Music Society and The Tenebrae Choir, among other arts involvements.

spacer Michael Norton OBE

Michael Norton is the Honorary Director, Trustee of CIVA and a long standing patron of MyBnk. After starting a career in merchant banking, he changed course in order to pursue a career in the voluntary sector.

He has founded and been involved with numerous organisations including the Directory of Social Change, Changemakers, YouthBank UK and UnLtd. He is also the author of many world-changing books including 365 Ways to Change the World.

 

Noel Gordon

Noel Gordon is as spacerNon-Executive Director, NHS-England. He formerly ran the global banking practice of Accenture and spent most of his career in the banking industry. He has worked in Europe, Asia and North America for retail banks on improving their customer experience and implementing new technologies.

Noel is passionate about innovation in banking including the enormous potential that mobile offers the unbanked population, especially in rural economies. Noel is also a member of the Ashoka Support Network and works with several social enterprises as both a coach to the leaders and as an adviser.

He has been involved in financial education in various ways for the last 20 years and is proud to support MyBnk in making a lasting impact on the financial literacy of school children and young adults.

Beatrice Engstrom-Bondy

spacer Beatrice has been the Senior Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of Investor AB and of Karl-Johan Persson, CEO of H&M since 2005.

She has also been a Managing Partner at Kreab London, Beatrice is the dedicated Chairwoman of MyBnk, as well as being a board member of the Learning School Trust, the UK subsidiary of Kunskapsskolan and Novare Human Capital and Chair of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce.

Maggie Morrissey

spacer Maggie is a chartered accountant and partner at KPMG, where she advises clients buying and selling companies.  

Since October 2010, Maggie has helped out at MyBnk on a regular basis.  Her MyBnk activities include ethical screening, funding research, skills training, mentoring, making the tea – anything but accounting!  In 2011, Maggie became a trustee of MyBnk.

Why I think MyBnk’s work is important? Our educational system is failing our young people.  They are leaving school with little understanding of how to manage their money.  MyBnk addresses this gap, and helps them build the confidence and skills to make the right financial choices.

Why I like working with MyBnk. I love the fact that the young, vibrant, energetic MyBnk team care enough to dedicate themselves to helping other young people and to addressing a huge problem in our society.

Mike Mompi

Mike Mompi is currently Director of Early Stage Investment at ClearlySo.

ClearlySo works with businesses that have a positive impact on society and the environment and helps them to secure investment capital; Mike is responsible for their network of individual investors and in 2013 led the UKBAA Social Impact Investment Deal of the Year. He also co-founded MakeSense, a community of professionals and students who provide consulting service in the social enterprise sector.

Professor Moorad Choudhry

spacer Moorad is currently Chief Executive of Habib Bank AG Zurich, London. He began his City career at the London Stock Exchange in 1989 and went on to become Head of Treasury at Europe Arab Bank, Head of Treasury at KBC Financial Products and Vice-President, Structured Finance at JPMorgan Chase Bank.

Outside of banking Moorad is Visiting Professor at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Brunel University, and Visiting Teaching Fellow at the Department of Management, Birkbeck, University of London. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, a Fellow of the IFS-School of Finance and a member of the Board of Directors of PRMIA. He is also author of The Principles of Banking (John Wiley 2012) and Bank Asset and Liability Management (John Wiley 2007).

Why I think MyBnk’s work is important?  Because understanding money is so important to everyone. No matter what we do or who we are, we can’t escape dealing  with finance, and it’s vitally important that everyone is at home with dealing with money and its impact on our lives.

Why I like being part of MyBnk?  Because their spirit and approach is so fantastic. There is a picture in the dictionary of them under “inclusive”.

Viral is a commercial solicitor at Bates, Wells & Braithwaite (BWB) advising corporates, charities and social enterprises.

He has a particular focus on social finance.

Why I think MyBnk’s work is important? A working understanding of finance is crucial to all aspects of life. For a variety of reasons, many young people fail to understand how to manage money and thus become entrapped in debt or financial difficulties. Making a difference to each young person has an impact on their development for the whole of society, thus making the work of MyBnk vitally important.

Why I like working with MyBnk? MyBnk is unique not only in its work but its ability to reach out to young people and educate them at their level. Each individual in the MyBnk team is wholly dedicated and enthusiastic to achieving MyBnk’s goals. For such a young organisation it has a wide reach.

Karim Kefi


Karim is currentlspacer y a financial consultant at UBS Complex Equity Control Group. He has held a number of roles within Finance and Middle Office over his eight years banking experience.

He is currently working on the Regulatory Reform programme of the bank. Karim is also a Chartered Management accountant qualifying in 2009. Karim previously worked with MyBnk on Enterprise in a Box and became a trustee in 2012.

Why I think MyBnk’s work is important? It’s confusing out there! Having a basic financial education empowers young people. They will understand the choices available to them at each stage of their life, whether this is budgeting as a student, picking the right credit card or even starting their own business.

Why I like working with MyBnk. The innovative delivery of financial education really engages with young people whether it’s workshops or even setting up your own bank!

MyBnk has found a way to make these essential life skills simple to understand and fun. The team at MyBnk are creative and believe in what they are doing, which has lead to its ongoing success.
